MECHANICS FOR SPOKEN WORD

1. Spoken word is a piece of creative writing that is best delivered through performance, so
it can be a story, poetry, or some combination. The piece must be your own creative
writing but you can quote other writers. If you reference other authors, your performance
must include verbal citations.

2. There is only one entry for each section.

3. The contestant must be a bona fide student of Agusan National High School – Senior
High School.

4. Your spoken word piece must be 1 – 3 minutes long. If it does not meet the 1 minute
minimum, the performer will be ineligible to place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. if it goes past 3 minutes,
expect to be cut off.

5. You can have a topic of your choice for your piece. It can be about love, life, friendship,
family, school, loyalty, heartbreaks, etc.

6. It can be in ENGLISH, BISAYA, FILIPINO, or COMBINATION of the mentioned


languages.

7. You may use costumes, props, music, and visual aids to share your spoken word
performance. You are also welcome to include dialogue and act out characters.

8. The criteria are as follow:

Stage presence and presentation - 50%

Poise and spontaneity of recitation - 30%

Intonation, poetic expression and a - 10%


clarity of spoken words and diction

Audience appeal - 10%

TOTAL - 100%

9. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
