Aerospace and Aeronautic

Structure

1890

• ◀︎ Clément Ader crea el Éole

Equipped with a steam engine. Ader managed to take off in the Éole, but failed to control the
aircraft, and could only travel about 50 meters in the air. Even so, he considered the results satisfactory.

1891

Otto Lilienthal
•◀︎ His first designs were monoplane gliders, later designing and building aircraft with other
configurations, such as biplanes, tandem-winged, flapping winged and folding wing ships. In 1893, he
slipped up to 250 meters, a record not surpassed until after his death.

1893

• ◀︎ Lawrence Hargrave y el box kite

It shows in Australia a glider capable of transporting passengers. It is based on an earlier
project of his, the box kite.

1897

Ader and the aircraft

• ◀︎
Ader designs this Airplane III/Éole III/Aquilón, twin-engine two-seater, symmetrical double
propeller; Propellers can rotate at different speeds to steer the aircraft to the right or left, and a small
rudder that is operated with a rope.) The poorly controlled aircraft taxied along the 450 m diameter circular
runway of the Satory Airfield, made a short flight of 50 m to 20 cm above the runway, turned around, and
collided at about 300 m.

1899

Percy Pilcher

1900

• ◀︎ First Airship-Ferdinand von Zeppelin

The airship carried five people, reached a height of 396 m and covered a distance of 6 km in
17 minutes.

1902

The Wrights
•◀︎ They begin to manufacture a heavier-than-air aircraft. They became the first team of designers
to conduct serious tests to try to solve aerodynamic, control and power problems, which affected all aircraft
manufactured at that time.

1906

• ◀︎ Alberto Santos Dumont

He made a public flight in Paris, in his famous plane, the 14-bis. This aircraft used the same
warping system used in the Wright brothers' aircraft and managed to travel a distance of 221 meters.

1910

•◀︎ Igo Etrich

He builds his flying machine inspired by the shape of a pigeon

1919

• ◀︎ The Goliath
transports 11 people from Paris to London, the first flight between those two being ciudades.su
creator Henri Farman.

1920

Beginning of unpowered flight or sailing

Oskar Ursinus, the director of the German magazine Flugsport, announces the first glider competition at
the Wasserkuppe (Rhön-Germany), with 25 participants.

1928

•◀︎ The Lippisch Entity

glider designed by Alexander Lippisch becomes the first rocket plane on June 11.

1936

•◀︎ Heinrich Focke

Heinrich Focke builds the Focke-Wulf Fw 61, the first practical helicopter

1938

•◀︎ First flight of the Boeing 307

This was the first pressurized cabin aircraft to make its first flight in 1938.

1943

Gloster Meteor
•◀︎ It was the first British jet fighter and the first to enter service with the Allies of World War II. The
development of the Meteor depended heavily on its innovative pulsejet engines, developed by Sir Frank
Whittle and his company, Power Jets Ltd.

1952

•◀︎ First Commercial Jet Aircraft

The de Havilland Comet, the first British-made commercial jet aircraft in history, enters service.

1968

• ◀︎ Tupolev Tu-144
It makes its first flight, becoming the world's first commercial supersonic aircraft, ahead of
Concorde by a few months.

1969

The Concorde
•◀︎ In 1969 it made its first flight, entered service in 1976 and flew for 27 years, until its departure
from circulation in 2003. Its main destinations were London Heathrow, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, John F.
Kennedy and Washington airports.

1988

•◀︎ The Antonov An-225.

It makes the first flight and becomes the largest aircraft in the world.

1994

Eurofighter Typhoon

•◀︎ Twin-engine and highly maneuverable, designed and built by the consortium of European
companies Eurofighter GmbH created in 1983 and composed of the companies Airbus, BAE Systems and
Alenia Aeronautica.4 It made its first flight on March 27, 1994,5 entering service on April 8, 2003 in
Germany.

2005

Airbus A380

•◀︎ It is a four-jet aircraft manufactured by the European company Airbus, a subsidiary of the
Airbus Group. It is the first jet aircraft with two decks along its entire fuselage, unlike the Boeing 747 in
which, although it also has two, the upper deck covers only the front of the fuselage. It has a maximum
capacity of 853 passengers

2016

Composite materials

•◀︎ An interdisciplinary team of researchers, teachers and students of the Aeronautical University
in Querétaro (Unaq), in agreement with various institutions in the country, develop projects focused on the
study of the phenomenology inherent in the manufacture of aeronautical parts, using composite materials
as an alternative to metal and alloys.

2019

• ◀︎ Present
Most aircraft are built with composite materials looking for better performance and lower
weight, to benefit airlines which seek a lower weight, to have more payload.
