Karens Korner
What an exciting time for Gloria Dei. Next Sunday, July 31st, we will hold a special Congregational Meeting to vote on the Call Committees recommendation of a proposed new minister. The Call Committee and the Council are excited and eager to share the good news about the proposed candidate. The short meeting will take place immediately after church. After the Call Committee introduces information and answers questions about the candidate, we will vote by printed ballot to call or to continue searching for new leadership. Please make every effort to join us for this important event. Many have asked about absentee ballots, but our constitution does not allow for that provision. Thank you the Call Committee and the Council for all their work in this process; filling out countless forms, serious discussions, phone calling, cottage meetings, tallying and evaluating results of surveys, and the actual interview with the candidate. Many good things have come forward through this process. We developed goals and guiding principles. Through the Cottage Meetings we renewed a sense of community. One of the important things to come out of those meetings was a general desire to be kept better informed on our financial status. To that end the Council has decided to update you more often in person or by letter, and to add a financial update to the newsletter and bulletin once a month. As many of you know by now, Sherry Wilberscheid will be moving to Wanakee in the near future. She has been a vital and caring part of the Gloria Dei community, and will be missed. Thanks Sherry for all you have done at Gloria Dei. Godspeed in your new adventures. Sarah Muermann will become the new Prayer Chain Coordinator, and Dianne Fett will coordinate Tables of Eight. Watch for more information from them soon. Its hard to believe that Council will soon be reporting on the fall line up; Sunday School, Confirmation, Stewardship events, and much more. Remember, the minutes of council meetings are posted on the kiosk. Thanks to the council, and to the entire congregation for holding strong and working hard to keep things going and growing at Gloria Dei. Pray for guidance as we enter a new phase in Making Christ Known.

Annual Luau After much thought, Coleen decided to have the annual luau and it will be co-hosted with Annette Pleshek. It will be on Saturday, August 6th beginning around 7:00. The date is the same as "family night" for the Packers, but it's tough to select a date to please everyone. The address is: 2119 Wisconsin Ave. (Hwy 57) in New Holstein. A little history for those who may or may not know; years ago there was a social group started at Gloria Dei made up of (I think) 20-somethings and they called themselves C'YA (Christian Young Adults). Those of us who didn't fit into that category (read: a bit older) decided that we would like a social group also, so we called the group C'YA Later (hee, hee) Where the C'YAs generally met WITH their children, we chose to meet without our children. We started meeting at church, but then decided it might be fun to meet in our homes. Traditionally, the host provides the place and soda and the guests have brought a snack or hors d'oeuvres to share. I honestly can't remember how many luaus we've had, but for those of you new to Gloria Dei (and those not-so-new), it's generally a fun, casual atmosphere in which to get to know each other. For the luau, you may also want to include a lawn chair...just in case there's an overwhelming response and we run out of our own lawn/patio chairs (wouldn't want anyone sitting on the ground). If you have any other questions, just give one of us a call (or stop us at church): Coleen 920-889-1187 Annette 849-9311

Stewardship
July 2011

Dear Members and Friends of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church: The very good news is that we have been Blessed at finding a candidate to be our pastor. What happens next? Time for a reality check. A lot if valuable information, concerns, self evaluations, hopes, and dreams have come out of the recent cottage meetings. In short, I believe that we have a good understanding of who we are and where we want to be as a congregation. It takes money and personal involvement to make it happen. Let us consider ourselves for a moment, financially at least. After an earlier plea in June we have managed to get the operating account at least brought up to date with bills paid current. We have let our building fund fall into arrears. Currently we need $10,141.04 to bring us up to date and includes $2,910.26 due August 1st. We also need to restore our two month Building Fund reserve, which was used up some time ago. That amount is $5,820.52. Mission Investment, who holds our mortgage, is very concerned about what we intend to do to meet our cash needs and stay current. We need to answer their concerns with a specific plan. Which brings to mind our upcoming needs for a full time pastor. At our Annual Meeting at the end January, we past an operating budget which included additional funding for recruiting, obtaining a pastor, and supporting clerical help for the minister. The budget just identifies our needs, it does not in itself, provide the cash to meet those needs. That is up to us to do what we said we want to do. Regarding a new pastor, we will need to step it up financially. I believe that we should get our house in order as much as possible before we bring someone new on board. We also need to prepare ourselves to pay budgeted but extraordinary expenses such as moving the new person in, additional pastoral expenses which we have not had very recently. Those budged expenses include: Secretary- $6,000.00, FICA - $460.00, Janitorial Service - $2,400.00, and Call Expenses - $6,000.00. In summary let me wrap this up. As I see it today we should have $15,961.56 for the Building Fund now, prorated extraordinary Operating expenses through the remainder of the year $10,000.00 along with the usual Operating cash required. Some of the Operating expenses have and can be partially offset by member volunteers, but much of it just takes good old cash to keep our mission going. Peace: Jerry

Where do we stand?? From the desk of the treasurer

As of June 30, 2011: Operating Income: $47,371.00 Expenses: $46,153.00 Budgeted: $57,882.00 (We have not hired a secretary or janitor as of this date, but the positions were budgeted for.) Building Budgeted and True Expense: $17,461.56 Income: $15,582.00 (This deficit for 2011 along with what we were already behind has put us about 2 months or more in the rears.)

If there is any more information that you would like, please contact the treasurer

Life Long Learning

VBS was held in June on the 27th- 30th. Twenty children signed up for VBS and 19 attended. The theme was Jungle Journey for Jesus. We had six tribal leaders, RJ Leithold, Emily Kohlberg, Jenny Bee Kolberg, Hailey Stephany, Austin Barrett, and Mariah Barrett. These young leaders did a great job with the Bible games and supporting the teachers. The teachers were Julie Schumacher, Becca Zimmerman, Karren Cobble and Tara Leithhold. Julie and Tara decorated the church to give it a jungle feeling. Julie made fun crafts with the students and Tara did the story telling. Karren spent tons of time reviewing and teaching the children wonderful songs. Becca made terrific treats with the children. Fun was had by all. .

Thank you to everyone that participated in VBS.

Thank you goes out to Amie Heller , who attended confirmation camp with our ninth grade students.

Kiel Parade
To promote Gloria Dei and our Rummage Sale August 19-20, we are planning an entry in the Kiel Parade, Sunday, August 14. This year's theme is "The Magical Days of Summer".

My idea is to get a bunch of our people to dress up as Harry Potter characters

and follow a car with posters and supplies. Handing out leaflets and coloring books.

Please give me your feedback and volunteer your involvement in this activity as possible. Mike Hetzner <hetzners@aol.com>

Message from Sherry Wilberscheid

I would like to let everyone know that I will be moving to Waunakee, Wisconsin (near Madison) on August 7th or 8th. My son and his family live there so I will be close to my grandchildren. I am very excited about this move but also very sad to leave Gloria Dei. I have been a part of this church family for 17 wonderful years and I will miss you all greatly. I have mentioned to several of you that I will never find another Gloria Dei, but have been reminded that the Holy Spirit will put loving people in my path as I need them. I know that is true, but I want you to know that I will have a two bedroom apartment and guests will always be welcome. My new address is 201 S. Madison, Apt 209, Waunakee, Wisconsin 53597, and my cell phone number is 920-418-0504. I will be getting a new email address and will pass that on as soon as I know what it is. I pray that God will continue to bless Gloria Dei with warm, loving people, great pastors, and showers of blessings. Please keep me in your prayers as I begin this new journey. Sherry Wilberscheid
