ASSES (SAQ)
DIRECTION: Answer the following questions.

1. Explain the essential elements of cooperative learning.

ANSWER: Social Interdependence theory, Structure-Process-Outcome theory, and
research on social interdependence have yielded five basic elements for designing
cooperative learning lessons. Positive interdependence, individual accountability,
promotive interaction, social skills, and group processing are the five basic elements
that must be present in any cooperative learning lesson.

The heart of collaborative efforts is positive interdependence. Students must believe

that they are inextricably linked with their groupmates in such a way that they cannot
succeed unless their groupmates succeed (and vice versa), and their groupmates'
work benefits them and their groupmates' work benefits them.

Each group member is personally responsible for doing his or her fair share of the
group's work.

Students promote each other's success by assisting, praising, encouraging, and

supporting one another's learning efforts.

To contribute to the success of a collaborative effort, interpersonal and small group

skills are required.

Finally, students must participate in group processing. Group processing is the

examination of the effectiveness of the process members use to maximize their own
and each other's learning, in order to identify ways to improve the process.

hese five basic elements are the educator’s best resource.

2. Name and describe three (3) features common to peer interactive Learning
strategies.

 • Structural interactions contribute to the effectiveness of peer tutoring.
 Peer tutoring can also be used by teachers to help students with special
needs.

3. What are the benefits of using the following strategies in teaching.

3.1 Community of learners

3.2 Peer tutoring

ANSWER: This is a great way to distribute learning environment because with these,
there will be influence of high achieving learners to low achieving learners and help
them do better in their education and performance.

3.3 Class Discussion

ANSWER: This strategy is more formal because the teacher has more authority over
the learning process and will be able to properly deliver the lesson and help the
students grow better.
4. Describe your synchronous and asynchronous class in any of your subjects.
Determine if there is anything in the class which will indicate that students are afforded
the opportunity to construct their own learning and has features of the socio-
constructivist perspective in learning.
ANSWER: The synchronous classes for some of our subjects are more focused on
reporting and discussion; during the discussion, we are required to participate and
respond to the question that is being asked, whereas in the asynchronous classes, the
teachers usually assign an activity in which we are able to express what we have
learned during discussion and sometimes quizzes based on the topic that is being
discussed.
