ROLL NO 37
SEMESTER 6TH
PAPER ;ENGINEERING SYSTEM
Q1: Enlist at least five modern lighting fixture along with picture.?

ANS:

1. SCONCE

A sconce is a type of light fixture that is fixed to a wall. The light is usually, but not
always, directed upwards and outwards, rather than down.

2. OUTDOOR LIGHT

Landscape lighting or garden lighting refers to the use of outdoor illumination of

private gardens and public landscapes.

3. TABLE LAMP

A table lamp is a source of light that stands on a table or any piece of furniture.

4. Modern bath & vanity light

A vanity light, also known as a vanity bar, is a long light fixture mounted above the
bathroom mirror

5. Modern Chandeliers

Modern chandeliers have a more modernized design that uses LEDs, and
combines the elements of both classic and contemporary designs.
Q2 (a): Calculate the value of K? If heat is passing through a homogenous material

of one Inch thickness for a period of one hour and conductance is 0.5 BTU.
Ans:

(b): How much lux of light is required for a lecture room.

Ans: For a lecture room 200 lux of light is required for clear vision of black board
or white board on the wall.
Q3: Explain dump waiter with the help of a detailed diagram?

A dumbwaiter is a small freight elevator or lift intended to carry food.

Dumbwaiters found within modern structures, including both commercial, public
and private buildings, are often connected between multiple floors. When
installed in restaurants, schools, hospitals, retirement homes or in private homes,
the lifts generally terminate in a kitchen.
Q4: Label the given diagram with all details?

1. Floor plate

2. Handrail

3. Balustrade

4. Step

5. Operational break

6. Electric motor

7. Drive assembly

8. Chain

9. Handrail drive

10. Truss

11. Pallet chain

Q5: Elaborate the function of Air Handling Unit (AHU).

Ans: An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is used to re-condition and circulate air as part of
a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system. The basic function of the AHU
is to take in outside air, re-condition it and supply it as fresh air to a building. All
exhaust air is removed, which creates an acceptable indoor air quality. Depending
on the required temperature of the re-conditioned air, the fresh air is either
heated by a recovery unit or heating coil or cooled by a cooling coil.
AHUs connect to ductwork that distributes the conditioned air through the
building and returns it to the AHU. A heat/cooling recovery exchanger is normally
fitted to the AHU for energy savings and increasing capacity. An AHU designed for
outdoor use, typically on roofs, is also known as a rooftop unit (RTU).
The AHU is a large metal box containing separate ventilators for supply and
exhaust, heating coil, cooling coil, heating/cooling recovery system, air filter racks
or chambers, sound attenuators, mixing chamber, and dampers.
Q6: Enlist the four types of Residential Air Condition system?

Ans: Home air conditioning systems come in several types, ranging from large
central systems driven by outdoor compressors to small plug-in units that stand
on the floor or mount in a window. No matter what form they take, air
conditioning systems have similar working components, including a refrigerant, a
compressor, condenser coils, an expansion valve, and evaporator coils. All of
these work together to transfer heat and moisture from the inside of your home
to the outside.

The different AC types are as follows:

1. Central Air Conditioner

2. Ductless Mini-Split

3. Window Air Conditioner

4. Portable Air Conditioner

Q7: what you understand by Renewable Energy?

Ans: Renewable energy, often referred to as clean energy, comes from natural
sources or processes that are constantly replenished. These sources of energy
include solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, and hydroelectric power.

Renewable sources are often associated with green energy and clean energy, but
there are some subtle differences between these three energy types. Where
renewable sources are those that are recyclable, clean energy are those that do
not release pollutants like carbon dioxide, and green energy is that which comes
from natural sources. While there is often cross-over between these energy types,
not all types of renewable energy are actually fully clean or green. For example,
some hydroelectric sources can actually damage natural habitats and cause
deforestation.
Q8: Explain ‘the fire Triangle with help of Diagram

Ans: /The fire triangle or combustion triangle is a simple model for understanding
the necessary ingredients for most fires.

The triangle illustrates the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel, and an
oxidizing agent (usually oxygen). A fire naturally occurs when the elements are
present and combined in the right mixture. A fire can be prevented or
extinguished by removing any one of the elements in the fire triangle. For
example, covering a fire with a fire blanket blocks oxygen and can extinguish a
fire. In large fires where firefighters are called in, decreasing the amount of
oxygen is not usually an option because there is no effective way to make that
happen in an extended area.
Q.09: Sketch a cross sectional Diagram of moving walkway.

Ans:
Q.10: Differentiate Between Humidification and De humidification.

Ans: Humidification is the process in which the moisture or water vapor or

humidity is added to the air. Common equipment used in this process is a
humidifier.

While,

Dehumidification is process of removal of moisture from air in a conditioned

room. In dehumidification the cooling coil temperature is kept below dew point
temperature, this allows moisture in air to condense and this condensate is
removed causing dehumidification but the air temperature is also reduced.
Common equipment used in this process is a dehumidifier

These two processes are totally opposite of each other.
