Greetings from Orchids The International Group of Schools!

The Xpression Club is elated to announce the next competition for the students
of Grades 5 to 10.

Orchids would like to provide a platform for the students to put on their
thinking caps and get acknowledged for the potential they have.

 Historical Fictional Writing Competition

Guidelines and General Instructions:
1. You can set your stories in any period or place in the past, so the story
can fit in with and extend any historical era/ topic that you may be
studying or like.
2. The writing should bring a little bit of history alive to readers of a
student's own age, and draw them into the story with characters they may
love, hate, or identify with, and a story that makes them want to go on
reading to find out what happens.
3. Historical fiction writing incorporates historical events with a touch of
fiction to add missing details : Example : Anne of Green Gables
4. List of Books based on Historical fiction writing are: The Book Thief,
Anne of Green Gables, Gone With The Wind, The Glass Palace,
Chanakya's Chant.
5. You must choose a period, place, event, or person that really interests
You: If required you may research on the topic of your choice to find
depth and accurate context to the story.
6. Historical accuracy – even down to the choice of names characters are
given and any props additional to the historical setting
7. A riveting read with a good plot!
8. A convincing fiction- i.e. is it plausible that these events and/or this
character could have existed at the time?
9. Use of historical knowledge to feed the plot, context, and character.
10.Effective use of historical vocabulary and literary conventions, including
where dialogue is included in the story.
11.Creative and interesting perspectives of story-telling.
12.We recommend a minimum story length of 15-20 sentences limit.
13.Any entries that go over the sentence limit will not be considered.
14.Historical fiction writing competition: time limit 1 hour at Intra level and
30 mins for Zonal Level
15.The Competition will be held in two stages. The Intra-school level round
will be held on 3rd September,2022. The Schools will conduct this
competition online. The First position holders of the Intra-Level round
will participate in the Zonal level competition.
16.The Zonal level competition will be held on 10th September, 2022
online. Central Team will share Zoom link with the schools for the
shortlisted participants to join.

17.The Intra-school level and the Zonal Level rounds will be held online.

For Intra-School level, there will be one round (online)

1. The Intra-School Level selection process will be based on the Top
Scores.
2. The Top 3 Students from each grade in each school facilitated the 1st,
2nd, and 3rd position for the Intra-School level.
3. The 1st place winners will be further evaluated for the Zonal level based
on their scores by the Central Team.
4. The schools will be conducting the Intra-school level online.

For the Zonal level, there will be one round (online)

1. The Zonal level participation list will be announced by the Central Team
on 8th of September, 2022.
2. The 1st Place winners from each grade of Intra-school level announced
by the Central Team will be participating at the Zonal level only.
3. The Top 3 Students from each grade will be selected as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
positions as the Zonal Level Winners.
4. Winners will be selected by the Central Team and the winners' school
principals will be notified.
5. The Central Team will send the zoom link for each grade.
6. Shortlisted participants are required to join as per their grade-wise link
that will be shared by the Central Team.
7. Time Duration for the Zonal level competition is 30 mins.

About the Competition:
1. Historical fiction writing is an event where the students will write a
convincing story based on a fictional historical event or setting.

2. Time Limit: 1 hour for Intra level and 30 minutes for Zonal Level
3. The Competition will be held in two stages- The Intra-School and Zonal
level. The First position holders of the Intra-School level selected by the
Central Team will participate in the Zonal level competition.
4. The Intra-School and the Zonal Level round will be held online.
