Learning Outcomes

By the end of the lesson, students are expected to:

• Explain the basic concepts about fitness and
health
• Show enthusiasm and motivation to incorporate
physical activity into daily routine.
PHYSICAL FITNESS

The outcome of
participating in physical
activity that improves the
body's ability to carry out
daily tasks and still have
enough reserve energy to
respond to unexpected
demands.
The Real Meaning of Fitness

Health and fitness do not always go together. If

health is defined as the absence of disease and
fitness is defined as the ability to do a given task
effectively and safely, then it is possible for
someone who lift weights and has strong
muscles to have clogged arteries. This could be
due to bad genes, a poor diet, and smoking or
high stress levels.
Fitness is an individual quality that varies
from person to person. It is influenced
by age, sex, heredity, personal habits,
exercise and eating practices. You can’t
do anything about the first three factors.
However, it is within your power to
change and improve the others when
needed.
How do we achieve health
and fitness?
• Defined as “any bodily movements produced by
skeletal muscles that result in energy
Physical Activity expenditure.”
• It can be classified as structured or incidental.
