FILM VIEWING: ROMERO

What did you learn from the movie of Bishop Oscar Romero?

If there's one thing I've taken from the film "Romero," it's to never be afraid to take risks,
especially in times when they’re definitely needed. Taking any risks does not necessarily
imply success, and that is fine. In the film, for example, Bishop Oscar Romero was not
renowned for opposing and striving to reform politics, notably in El Salvador. He did,
however, take an unexpected turn. A sequence of brutal incidents had weighed hard on
his life, including the death of his colleague, Father Grande, and the murder of many
more individuals. This prompted him to take the risk of speaking out, to call for an end to
violence. He stood out for the minorities and the oppressed, using his own voice to
advocate for them. Bishop Oscar Romero was bold and courageous, and most
importantly, he took risks, which I believe was incredibly brave.

Throughout the movie, Bishop Oscar Romero’s life served as an eye-opener to battle
abuse that such oppressors inflict upon the people, while staying true to one’s morals
and principles. In this case, it would be grounding themselves in God’s Word.

What I learned from Bishop Oscar Romero is that we should fight against oppression and
have moral justice. We should use our voices to influence and speak out against
injustices.

I learned to have the courage, with an utmost faith in God, to be a source of hope for
the less fortunate and victims of injustice fearlessly and wholeheartedly.

I've learned that we must have courage and take a stand to do what is right. Never be
afraid to do what is correct and stay true to your principles.

hope for the poor and the oppressed people of his country by working with them and for
them, and making their struggles his own.

Bishop Oscar Romero has shown and reflected on what it means to be a follower of
Christ. He embodied the Catholic teachings of Jesus by being a prominent example of
holiness for the entire Church and orchestrating his life in such a way that he was always
with and for the poor. He referred to the teachings of the Catholic Church as guidance
and a justification for his advocacy for the underprivileged.

The bishop’s role reflects the Catholic Doctrine of the Church as he upholds the rights of
the people to live, no matter what their circumstances may be. This was evident in the
movie as he made sure that the mass killings stopped.

His role reflected the Catholic Doctrine of the Church by being a true follower of Christ.
Serving the people, upholding their rights, and promoting justice. He served as a guide
to those who were vulnerable and helped them.

Bishop Romero’s role and doings greatly reflected the belief in God’s preferential option
for the poor and vulnerable. An instance to prove this was when he changed his views
regarding the problems affecting the nation and the role that the Church must play
which is to work for and alongside the poor rather than catering to the wealthy.

assess the situation and figure out the best scenario for the victims of the abuse.

Bishop Oscar Romero fought for human rights by challenging the government and giving
sermons about the killings and different human rights violations that were happening that time.
He served as the people’s voice, as well as led the church to change its role and serve the poor.

If you were Bishop Oscar Romero of today would you do the same as what he did? why?
why not?

If I were Bishop Oscar Romero, I might do the same as he did but only to an extent. I may not
have the courage to give my all but if I was put in his situation, I would still do my best even in
the smallest way to help the people and be able to fight the oppressors

If I were Bishop Oscar Romero of today, I would wholeheartedly do the same as what he did. I
choose to be of service and speak for the people especially the oppressed even with the notion
that it could lead to my death. Being silent when injustice occurs, will do more harm than what
we see on the surface — it helps and encourages the oppressor. Furthermore, God tells us to
speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and ensure justice for those being
crushed.

I may not have the same courage Bishop Oscar Romero had, but if I were in the same situation,
I will also help in fighting against oppression in any way I can.

If I were Bishop Oscar Romero today, I would still do the same thing as he did. This is because
the freedom and the lives of the people are both too important to ignore, wherein sacrificing
myself for their sake would be enough.

To be fully honest, I don’t think I have what it takes to do the same as he did, to accomplish
what he achieved. Even while I believe in justice and that everyone's voice should be heard,
especially the impoverished and marginalized people, I don't think I possess the remarkable
courage that he had to effect the same change and influence on the world. However, I still
ponder what I would have done if I had been in his position. I don't know the answer for sure,
but if I were in his shoes during that time, I believe that God would lead me and assist me in
making the decision to do what is right and ought to be done.
