ACT. 10

THREE PASSIONS I HAVE LIVED FOR

By: Bertrand Russel

Three passions I have lived for central’s theme is lifelong passion. It is the passion he
wishes to pursue and live with throughout his life.

For me consider writing to be my life's passion. Because I am a quiet person who rarely
interacts with others, writing became my means of communicating without speaking,
traveling without walking, and socializing without having to face the crowds. Being a writer
is a part of me that I can proudly flaunt since it allows me to see the greatest version of
myself. This is why I consider it to be my passion.

Bertrand Russel used some Figures of Speech which are: Metaphors (his passions have
blown him about like “great winds” (figures of speech using like or as are known as similes).
(“one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold unfathomable
lifeless abyss”) (“Love and knowledge…led upward toward the heavens”). Imagery
( “Simple but overwhelmingly strong”) (Alliteration “very verge”) (Repetition
“ Loneliness” “ Have sought” in stanza 2) (Rhyme “ hither and thither). And the
punctuation mark used in the selection are comma, colon, hyphen, and period. For the
Grammatical level it has an organized manner in terms of phonetics, morphology, semantics,
syntax and pragmatics. And the selection's lexical level is well-organized, allowing the author
to create an educational selection that can serve as a lesson to any reader. Discourse Analysis:
Pragmatics,The language employed in the selection is extensive enough for the reader to
comprehend the message that the selection wishes to express to the reader. Implicatures,
some implicatures in the selection include: ( “I have sought love, first because it give
ecstasy”), ( “ I have wishes to understand the heart of men.” ) ( “ Like great winds have
blown me hither and thither”) . Situational Context: Bertrand Russell, the author, sought to
convey to all readers his passion in life, which he wishes to live for, through this selection,
which is a sort of written communication. Though the selection is brief, the information
included inside is complete and ties to other words and phrases that are required in the poem.
Written communication is the method through which the author opted to convey his message

in this case. And lastly the critical discourse analysis: He wanted to have a selection that is
appropriate for teenagers and middle-aged adults. As we all know, today's teenagers are often
bewildered by what is going on around them, especially when it comes to societal
expectations. Teens must be passionate about anything they wish to accomplish in life.
Similarly, some people in the middle ages may still be unsure of what path they want to take
after finishing college; having a passion in life may assist them in deciding what they truly
want to be and achieve in life, which they would enjoy while progressing as a human being.
