Computer

parts and
its
functions

What is computer?
A computer is a digital electronic machine
that can be programmed to carry out
sequences of arithmetic or logical operations
(computation) automatically. Modern
computers can perform generic sets of
operations known as programs. These
programs enable computers to perform a
wide range of tasks. A computer system is a
“complete” computer that includes the
hardware, operating system (main software),
and peripheral equipment needed and used
for “full” operation. This term may also refer
to a group of computers that are linked and
function together, such as a computer
network or computer cluster.
1.Monitor

A computer monitor is an output

device that displays information in pictorial or text form. A monitor usually
comprises a visual display, some circuitry, a casing, and a power supply.
The display device in modern monitors is typically a thin-film-transistor liquid-
crystal display (TFT-LCD) with LED backlighting having replaced cold-cathode
fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlighting. Previous monitors used a cathode-ray
tube (CRT) and some plasma (also called gas-plasma) displays. Monitors are
connected to the computer via VGA, Digital Visual
Interface (DVI), HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, low-voltage differential
signaling (LVDS) or other proprietary connectors and signals.
Originally, computer monitors were used for data processing while television sets were
used for entertainment. From the 1980s onwards, computers (and their monitors) have
been used for both data processing and entertainment, while televisions have
implemented some computer functionality. The common aspect ratio of televisions, and
computer monitors, has changed from 4:3 to 16:10, to 16:9.
Modern computer monitors are easily interchangeable with conventional television sets
and vice versa. However, as many computer monitors do not include
integrated speakers nor TV Tuners (such as digital television adapters), it may not be
possible to use a computer monitor as a TV set without external components.
2.Keyboard

A keyboard is a peripheral device that enables a user to

input text into a computer or any other electronic
machinery. A keyboard is an input device and is the most
basic way for the user to communicate with a computer. This
device is patterned after its predecessor, the typewriter,
from which
the
keyboard
inherited its
layout,
although the
keys or
letters are arranged to function as electronic switches. The
keys include punctuation, alphanumeric and special keys
like the (Windows key and various multimedia keys), which
have specific functions assigned to them

3.Mouse
A headset makes spoken communication possible without
having to wear an earpiece or hold a microphone. It replaces,
for example, a telephone handset and can be used to talk and
listen at the same time. Other common uses of headsets are
for gaming or video communications, in conjunction with a

5.PC tower

Most desktop PCs sold today are built in the tower form. A
computer tower is a metal chassis that holds all of the
computer’s components. Towers are vertically-oriented, and
are generally placed on the floor, next to the desk where you
use your computer. Computer towers are available in an
enormous variety of sizes to suit every need.
6.Speaker

Computer speakers, or multimedia speakers, are speakers sold

for use with computers, although usually capable of other
audio uses, e.g. for an MP3 player. Most such speakers have an
internal amplifier and consequently require a power source,
which may be by a mains power supply often via an AC adapter,
batteries, or a USB port. The signal input connector is often a
3.5 mm jack plug (usually color-coded lime green per the PC 99
standard); RCA connectors are sometimes used, and a USB port
may supply both signal and power (requiring additional
circuitry, and only suitable for use with a computer). Battery-
powered wireless Bluetooth speakers require no connections at
all. Most computers have speakers of low power and quality
built in; when external speakers are connected they disable the
built-in speakers. Altec Lansing claims to have created the
computer speaker market in 19
7.Power Supply unit(PSU)

A power supply unit (PSU) converts mains AC to low-

voltage regulated DC power for the internal
components of a computer. Modern personal
computers universally use switched-mode power
supplies. Some power supplies have a manual switch
for selecting input voltage, while others automatically
adapt to the mains voltage.
8.Projector

A projector or image projector is an optical device that projects

an image (or moving images) onto a surface, commonly a
projection screen. Most projectors create an image by shining a
light through a small transparent lens, but some newer types of
projectors can project the image directly, by using lasers. A
virtual retinal display, or retinal projector, is a projector that
projects an image directly on the retina instead of using an
external projection screen.
9.Printer

In computing, a printer is a peripheral machine which makes a

persistent representation of graphics or text, usually on paper.
[1] While most output is human-readable, bar code printers are
an example of an expanded use for printers.[2] Different types
of printers include 3D printers, inkjet printers, laser printers,
and thermal printers.[3]
10.Scanner

An image scanner—often abbreviated to just scanner—is a

device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting
or an object and converts it to a digital image. Commonly
used in offices are variations of the desktop flatbed scanner
where the document is placed on a glass window for
scanning. Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by
hand, have evolved from text scanning “wands” to 3D
scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test
and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications.
Mechanically driven scanners that move the document are
typically used for large-format documents, where a flatbed
design would be impractical.
