What is management?

The management definition is a single or group of individuals who challenges and oversees a person
or collective group of people in efforts to accomplish desired goals and objectives. Furthermore, the
definition of management includes the ability to plan, organize, monitor and direct individuals. The
management definition is also a person or collective group who possess the executive abilities to lead
a group through hardships, aspiring to meet an organization’s purpose and visions.

What is management? Management is a process of planning, organizing, leading and controlling the
human resources, financial, physical, and information resources of an organization in order to meet
the company’s mission and goals efficiently and effectively. For example, the manager has to plan and
organise all the activities. He has to give proper directions to his subordinates as a leader. He also has
to control all the activities. The manager has to perform these functions continuously. Therefore,
management is a continuous and never ending process. Management is also an academic discipline, a
social science whose objective is to study social organizations. According to the Father of Modern
Management, Peter Drucker (1909-2005), management is the key organ of any organisation. In his
opinion, management is performed through a series of tasks. A manager has to perform several
functions such as setting of objectives, increasing productivity, organising and managing social
impacts and responsibilities, and motivating employees.
