NMSU Student Selected as J.H. Blades Scholar

Linsey Tabor

Linsey Tabor was one of 16 students nationwide to

be selected for the highly competitive National
Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices
(NAPSLO) internship program.

While interning in Scottsdale, AZ (Scottsdale

Insurance Company), and San Antonio, TX (Quirk &

underwriters to gain knowledge on how to properly
analyze and profitably rate unique and hard-to-place
risks; observed how carrier underwriters manage
broker relationships to maximize business
production; accompanied brokers on retail visits to
learn how to create wholesale value and increase
submission flow; and learned vital communications
skills to assist brokers in finding suitable risk Linsey Tabor
placement solutions.

Two students among the group were chosen as J.H. Blades Scholars, and Linsey was one of the two
chosen.

She is the first NMSU student selected for the very prestigious award, which includes an all-expenses
paid trip to London to study the Lloyd’s market next summer.

Giving Tuesday
NMSU held its first 24-hour marathon fundraising event on
December 1, 2015.

The University brought in more than $4.5 million in new

scholarship funding. More than 2,366 donors from 47 states and 3
countries contributed $678,317, which was matched dollar-for-
dollar, if to a scholarship fund, using funds generated by NMSU
license plates and an estate gift of $250,000 — a life insurance
policy donated to the university upon the recent death of a private
donor.

The NMSU Risk Management and Insurance Studies Program

scholarship accounts benefited from this event thanks to a
number of generous donors.

The Rocky Mountain RIMS Chapter has been very supportive of

the NMSU program for a number of years, by funding student
travel to RIMS conferences and providing scholarships.

Through the Giving Tuesday event the Rocky Mountain RIMS Chapter committed to an endowed
scholarship with an initial contribution of $8,000 (to be matched dollar-for-dollar). The Chapter is also
once again providing financial support to send NMSU students to the National and Western Regional
RIMS conferences.

Will Burke, owner of the Burke Insurance

Group, LLC has generously established a
current use scholarship of $5,000 annually
to a top RMI student.

With the Giving Tuesday matching, this

year’s scholarship will be worth $10,000.

Will Burke (holding check) is joined (L-R) by Anthony Casaus, Assistant Dean-Development; Jim
Hoffman, Dean, College of Business; and Tim Query, Professor.
