Group the class into three (3) groups


Mechanics in doing activity: Each group will be given 2 minutes to get the correct
word. No body language is allowed. The clock stops when Player One answers correctly the
secret word. Team must have 2 players. Player one will do the questioning while player 2
should answer YES, NO OR MAYBE. The secret word will be posted at the top of the head
of guesser. The category is ANIMALS.

Group 3: Shrimp

Divide the class into Three (3) groups and give the activity. (8 MINUTES)

Group 1 (ART INTEGRATION)

Draw animals that can be found in the community and paste them on the
correct spot in the blank chart given by the teacher. Then explain your
work after finishing the activity.

Group 2

List down the names of animals that can be found in the community.
Decide if they belong to vertebrate or invertebrate. Explain your work after
finishing the activity.
Group 3

Make a Venn Diagram that explains the distinguishing characteristics of


vertebrates and invertebrates.

ABSTRACTION

Vertebrates are creatures made by bones of a spinal column and a backbone.


The term derives from vertebrae, the bones that make up the spines. The skeleton
keeps an animal's body up and covers it. Vertebrates share some essential
characteristics. A hollow backbone and the cranium, or skull, shield most
vertebrates' spinal cord and brain. By mating between males and females, all
vertebrates reproduce.
An invertebrate is a cold-blooded animal with no backbone. Invertebrates can
live on land—like insects, spiders, and worms—or in water. Marine invertebrates
include crustaceans (such as crabs and lobsters), mollusks (such as squids and
clams), and coral.
APPLICATION

Choose a pupil to pick a definition from the MAGIC BOX. Let


him/her read the definition aloud and paste it to what animal it
refers. Do this activity on the board.

Animal classification is a matter of sorting out similarities and differences, of


placing animals in groups and then breaking those groups apart into subgroups.
This sorting process enables scientists to describe evolutionary relationships,
identify shared traits, and highlight unique characteristics down through the
various levels of animal groups and subgroups. Among the most basic criteria by
which animals are sorted is whether or not they possess a backbone. This single
trait places an animal into one of just two groups: the vertebrates or the
invertebrates and represents a fundamental division among all animals alive today
as well as those that have long ago disappeared. If we are to know anything about
an animal, we should first aim to determine whether it is an invertebrate or a
vertebrate. We'll then be on our way to understanding its place within the animal
world.
