1. What is the time and place of the book? What evidence in the book tells you this?
The Amobi’s house is located in Fairview, Connecticut. Her house is a setting for most of
the book because she study’s most of her evidence there when solving a murder. The
woods outside are also a really big setting because that’s where the murder took place and
Pip and Ravi often go there to discusss the murder.
In the April of 2012, Andie Bells died. Five years after that Pip (Pippa) decided to do a
school project on her murder.
2. Name and describe a secondary character. Describe her/him physically and
describe her/his personality and history, if known. Explain how s/he is important
to the story and the ideas of the book.
Ravi Singh is Pip’s partner in solving the case. He is also Sal Singh’s brother (The
person who allegedly killed Andie Bell). Pip can’t come to the conclusion that Sal killed
Andie, so she goes to the Singh’s house to ask him a few questions. Throughout the
book Pip and Ravi became steadfast friends and partners in solving the case. Ravi
belongs to a brown family, is tall, and has brown hair, which he scratches whenever
he’s nervous. He is kind and caring, and is willing to do anything for the people he
loves. Throughout the book Ravi protects and helps Pippa when shes working on the
murder case.

1. Is the book written in the first or third person (I or s/he)? How does that affect
the story?
A Good Girls Guide To Murder is written in third person point of view(she,he,them), but
along the book we see pages of Pip’s research which is written by her in first-person point
of view. The third-person point of view affects the story because we don’t get to learn
about the character’s thoughts as much. Even though the narrator told us about Pip’s
thoughts, we would have a better understanding if it was first-person. In third person we
get to see real reactions of the other people in the book, whereas in first-person the
reader would only see what the narrator sees. In this book third-person helps the reader
analyse the crime, without anyone else’s opinion.
The other part of the book which is Pip’s research is written in first-person point of view.
This helps the reader see the conclusions Pip made and what’s going on in her mind at the
moment. In every chapter Pip winds up and writes about her thoughts on the new clues.
 7. What is your reaction to a relationship, event, behaviour or message/theme of
the book? Be clear about what you are reacting to and exactly what makes you
respond as you do.
Andie Bell was seen as an innocent murdered girl, but no one ever thought about going
further in to her case. In reality Andie Bell was an awful student and a dreadful classmate
and friend. Both of her friends Emma and Chloe confirmed this when Andie interrogated
them. Everyone in Fairview kept her truths silent because they didn't want to insult a
dead girl.
In my opinion the people should say what kind of person Andie Bell was, if that helps with
the murder case. They shouldn’t keep this matter to themselves, because the reader
learns throughout the book that many of these statements were sufficient forms of
evidence. For example, Andie was drug dealing, and if the police had known that they
might have looked into the case more thoroughly, because it would have been a substantial
matter.

1. What is the climax of the novel? What major conflicts lead up to it and what is the
resolution afterward?
The climax of A Good Girls Guide To Murder is when Pip confronts Mr. Ward and figures
out he was having a secret relationship with Andie and was mainly the reason she
died(Later on Pip figures out another lead to the story that explains that Becca disposed
of her body and trampled the evidence).
Pip and Ravi figure out that Mr. Ward was potentially keeping Andie in his old house while
everyone was thinking she was dead. They planned on confronting him the next day
together, but Andie leaves alone. She reaches the old house and while she’s outside she
calls the police, then she goes inside to confront Mr. Ward.
When she goes inside she learns the truth and finds out that Mr. Ward murdered Sal
Singh and framed him as the murderer of Andie Bell. Soon the police come in and Pip
realises that the person Mr. Ward had in his house wasn’t Andie and some other person
that looked really similar. The police re-open Andie Bell’s case and resolve the issue Pip
did her project for.
2. What is the theme or themes in the novel? How does the author show this idea? Give
evidence. Comment not how this theme fits in the novel and how it applies to life
outside the book. What does this theme mean to you?
There are many mature themes involved with A Good Girls Guide To Murder such as
murder, drugs, and rape, as well as self-consiuosness. Andie’s second killer, Becca Bell,
grew self-conscious because Max Hastings put drugs in her drink and then afterwards
raped her. Rape, drugs, and self-consiousness can turn a person into a murderer. This
theme applies to the outside world because a great deal of people deal with jealousy and
self-consciousness.
Another great theme in this novel is that someone's crime will always be caught, although
it might take some time. In the novel Sal Singh was proven innocent after 5 years and Mr.
Ward and Bella were finally caught. This applies to the real world because some people
think that they’ll never be caught for the bad they do, but in reality their bad doings will
 get back to them. This means that everyone should be honest and spread morality and
welfare to the world.

Attached on Classroom - I did my wanted poster on Max Hastings because he was one of the 4
people who were arrested in the investigation. Because Mr. Ward and Bella were already caught
by the police, I thought Max would be a good person to do my poster on. He raped and drugged
inncoent girls and also injured and elderly man while driving a car when he was drunk.

I chose this song because it illustrates the murder seen that happened in the woods when Mr.
Ward kills Sal Singh. Mr. Ward says that he’s killing Sal for his own good, just like the song says
“I know he’s killing me for mercy”Mr. Ward gave Sal a lot of sleeping pills and then took him out
into the woods to let him die there.

This song is relevant to the book because it shows how petrifying threats can be. Throughout the
book Pip received many threats to stop researching the murder case, but she stayed strong and
continued to find clues, until her dog got kidnapped. After her dog got kidnapped she gave up and
handed all her evidence to an anonymous person, only to find out that they killed her dog. After
that she didn’t want to continue looking because she realised the person actually killed the dog.

This song is relevant to the theme of my book because it talks about all the bad things that can
happen because a person is high on alcohol/drugs. I decided to pick this song because of the
following incident that happened in the book. Andie was dealing drugs and got involved with
many dangerous people along the way. Although she wasn’t taking drugs, she turned into a really
bad person for dealing with them. Max Hastings also made really bad decisions because of them.
One night when he was high, he decided to drive a car and injured an elderly man because of his
driving. He also put drugs in several girls drinks and then raped them.

Part 4 - Story Elements

3. Write a review of the novel wherein you try to get someone else to read it.

Holly Jackson’s book A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder has me geussing the entire time,
trying to piece out evidence. I truly felt like I was a part of the story putting the
evidence together with them. Pippa’s determination of proving Sal Singh and her
connection with Ravi Singh were things I enjoyed to see.

The rivelling, compelling and addictive story will keep you engaged with the book the whole
time. Holly Jackson has created an engrossing plot that will have you unable to put the
book down and will have you guessing as to who the main suspect is due to the several
curveballs thrown. The book also includes notes from Pippa's log book, which is a fascinating
addition that also aids in breaking down complex pieces of information and making them more
understandable.

As soon as I started reading I felt a connection to Pippa and her amazing personality. I loved
how she was so nice and caring, and didn’t want to hurt anyone. Throughout the book I also
felt a great connection to the murder. There were a few points in the book where I was
slipping back and forth through the given evidence and trying to figure out if Salil Singh
actually murdered Andie Bell. I loved how Pippa stayed engrossed in the case, and never
retreated even though she got several threats.

Overall, this book is very well organised and well written. The plot and the dynamic between
Pippa Amobi and Ravi Singh were also very well constructed, and I enjoyed following them on
their strange and interesting adventure.
