Hundreds of Ischool students in Nha Trang were poisoned by fried chicken

wings
The results of testing food samples at Ischool Nha Trang, where the poisoning incident caused
more than 600 students to hospitalize, showed that the fried chicken wings were contaminated.
On the afternoon of November 22, the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang made the above conclusion
after a multi-day test on 8 food samples related to the poisoning case.
The results showed that Salmonella, Bacillus cereus and E. Coli bacteria were present in the
sample of fried chicken wings. In addition, Bacillus cereus bacteria were also present in fish
sauce samples. This is an erythrocyte-lytic and enterotoxin-producing strain that does not explain
erythrocytes. Bacillus cereus is widely distributed in nature, infects foods overnight, or
refrigerates for a long time, causing food poisoning.
Previously, the health sector determined that the causative agent for students at Ischool Nha
Trang was the Salmonella group. Salmonella infection is a case of infection, or food poisoning
caused by bacteria, after being treated, there are no sequelae.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, Center for Tropical Diseases Bach Mai Hospital, said that the
treatment regimen for the children is to use antibiotics to kill Salmonella bacteria, the treatment
time is about 5 to 7 days, continue to balance the bacteria. intestinal tract and cure the symptoms.
According to the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health, as of this afternoon, hospitals
received 662 Ischool students who were poisoned after lunch, in which a student died. The
number of students being treated is 137 (down 74 cases compared to yesterday); No more severe
cases. Dr. Cao Van Trung, Deputy Head of the Department of Poison Supervision and
Information and Communication (Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health) assessed this
as the biggest case of food poisoning in the school block.
Before this severe incident, Khanh Hoa Provincial Police asked the Department of Health to
direct hospitals and medical facilities to synthesize data and provide information on the
poisoning case; patients treated; for investigation purposes.
Authorities also asked medical facilities to preserve all blood samples of patients and provide
medical records upon request.
