Fernando Bagonbanta was one of the early native versifiers of the 17th century. He was born in
Abucay, Bataan and his parentage is unknown. In his time he was known as a ladino, the name given to
natives who had mastered the Spanish language. The ladinos were trained or educated in parish or
catechetical schools and were used as interpreters and informants. Ladino was also used to designate
those literary works which were actually Spanish romances and poems.
Bagonbanta's popularity as a writer of metrical romances in Tagalog and Spanish can be traced
to as far back as 1606. His works were characterized by restraint and by the religious tone that
dominated his compositions. The religious could not be avoided as the friars were dominant during that
period. Their influence was strongly felt in every segment of organized society.

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar was a Castilian knight and warlord in medieval Spain. Fighting with both
Christian and Muslim armies during his lifetime, he earned the Arabic honorific al-sīd, which would
evolve into El Cid, and the Spanish moniker El Campeador. He was born in Vivar del Cid, a village near
the city of Burgos.

Charlemagne or Charles the Great, numbered Charles I, was King of the Franks from 768, King of
the Lombards from 774, and Emperor of the Romans from 800. During the Early Middle Ages,
Charlemagne united the majority of western and central Europe.

The youngest of the siblings. He is a man of integrity and compassion. These good qualities makes him
the King's favorite child.
Old leper
The old man who advices Don Juan to seek for the hermit’s cottage and ask for an advise on how to get
the Adarna bird without any harm.
Hermit
The old man who advices Don Juan on how to successfully get the Adarna bird.
Princess Juana
The princess whom Don Juan rescues from a giant who holds her in custody.
Princess Leonora
Younger sibling of Princess Juana. Don Juan also rescues her from the serpient with seven heads.
King Salermo
Ruler of the kingdom of De los Crystal with black magical powers. He is the father of Doña Maria Blanca.

2. Mountain of Tabor - This is where Don Juan met the old man in the mountain and the old man gave
some directions to the Hermit's house and the Hermit gave everything Don Juan need to capture the
Adarna Bird. And the Hermit instructed Don Juan that for every song of the Adarna bird, Don Juan must
wound his palm with a knife and drop some lime juice on the wound so that the pain wouldn't let him
sleep.
3. the main idea of it all is to remain good in spite of the evil that may be done to you as you will get
your reward later on. High level of love and respect children have for their parents.
4. Ibong Adarna tells the story of an ailing king who sent his three sons to search for the Ibong Adarna
"Adarna bird" as the only cure to his illness and as a reward of whoever catches the bird and bring to
him will inherit the throne.
