Activity 1.

1:

Name some activities which can be consider as leisure time and recreation. Give 5 examples for
each and explain.

1. Recreational Activities

• Swimming- in recreation and sports, the propulsion of the body through water by
combined arm and leg motions and the natural flotation of the body.
• Playing cards- Card games can teach math and memory skills, as well as strategic
thinking, psychologist and sociologists say. Also, the conversation and friendly rivalry
that come with sitting down to play cards can strengthen family ties. Family games also
can build children’s confidence: The rules are the same for everyone, and it is fun to
play a game in which anyone can win.
• Dancing- can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It has a wide
range of physical and mental benefits including: improved condition of your heart and
lungs. increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness.
• Ice skating- the recreation and sport of gliding across an ice surface on blades fixed to
the bottoms of shoes (skates).
• Camping- is an outdoor recreational activity. The participants, known as campers,
leave urban areas, their home region, or civilization and enjoy nature while spending
one or several nights, usually at a campsite, which may have cabins.

2. Leisure Activities

• Painting- the process or art of using paint, in a picture, as a protective coating, or as


decoration.
• Bicycling- the sport or activity of riding a bicycle. Bicycle racing has three main
forms: road racing (typically over long distances), track racing (on an oval track), and
cyclotrons (over rough, open country).
• Hiking- the activity of going for long walks, especially in the country or woods.
• Horseback Riding- the sport or activity of riding horses
• Reading Books- is a thinking process. It allows the reader to use what he or she may
already know, also called prior knowledge.

What other characteristic of recreational activities can you enumerate and describe? Give at least
5.

• Recreation is performed during free time – should be aware that engaging in


recreational activities should not be in conflict with your other tasks or
responsibilities.
• Recreation is for social, emotional and spiritual connection – activities will give you a
feeling that is intrinsic to the well-being of your soul.
• Recreation is a reward – best motivation for you to participate in recreational
activities is the benefit that you can derive from it: fitness and satisfaction; promotes
friendship and camaraderie.
• Recreation is a “problem-solver” – help them solve their problems – as a positive
result, you tend to be more disciplined and sports-minded individual – helps reduce
academic and scholastic inferiority complex.
• Recreation is not a single form – can choose from and engage in different recreational
activities depending on your preference.
