CAB CHANGING PROCEDURE

Following step by step procedure to be adopted by crew for cab changing in Locomotives

A. CONVENTIONAL LOCOS (WAG-5/ WAG-7):-

i) Single Unit (SU):

1. Stop the loco by SA-9 and ensure the physical application of brakes and 3.5 Kgs/sq.cm in BC
gauge and A-9 in Release & ensure BP pressure 5 kg/cm 2. Build up MR Pressure to 9.5 kg/cm².
2. Open DJ and ensure glowing of LSDJ and other pilot lamps.
3. Lower pantograph and physically ensure it is lowered. Bring MPJ to neutral. Remove BL, ZPT and
MPJ key.
4. For changing the cab, ensure closing of A-9 inlet and outlet cocks and SA-9 inlet and outlet cocks
in the working cab.
5. After going to other cab, keep SA-9 in application position, open SA-9 inlet and outlet cocks and
A-9 inlet/outlet cocks without fail.
6. Unlock BL, raise pantograph and close DJ and switch ON BLCP. Ensure MR, BP and BC pressures.
7. Release SA9 and ensure locomotive brakes are releasing.
8. Apply A9 and observe dropping of BP pressure and conjunction brakes are applied.
9. Keep A9 in release and recharge BP pressure and ensure conjunction brakes are released.
10. If conjunction brakes are not releasing pull QRV (Quick Release Valve) of C3W DV.
11. Apply SA9 and ensure BC 3.5kg/cm2.
12. Conduct loco brake power test & loco brake feel test before starting the loco.

ii) Multiple Unit (MU):

1. In Leading Loco:-
2. Stop the loco by SA-9 and Ensure the physical application of brakes and 3.5 Kgs/sq.cm in BC
gauge and A-9 in Release & ensure BP pressure 5 kg/cm 2. Build up MR Pressure to 9.5 kg/cm².
3. Open DJ and ensure glowing of LSDJ and other pilot lamps
4. Lower pantograph and physically ensure it is lowered. Bring MPJ to neutral. Remove BL, ZPT and
MPJ key.
5. For changing the cab, ensure closing of A-9 inlet and outlet cocks and SA-9 inlet and outlet cocks
in the working cab.
6. Close L&T Cock (A-8) i.e. BP COCK
7. Change MU2B Valve to “TRAIL” Position.
8. Close IP Cock.

In Trailing Loco (Which Is To Be Changed As Leading Loco):-

9. After going to Trailing Loco’s End cab, Keep SA-9 in application position, open SA-9 inlet and
outlet cocks and A-9 inlet/outlet cocks.
10. Open L&T Cock (A-8) i.e. BP COCK.
11. Change MU2B Valve to “LEAD” Position.
12. Open IP Cock.
13. Unlock BL, raise pantograph and close DJ and switch ON BLCP. Ensure MR, BP and BC
pressures.
14. Release SA9 and ensure Both locomotive brakes are releasing. If not releasing, pull QRV
(Quick Release Valve) of C3W DV.
15. Apply A9 and observe dropping of BP pressure and conjunction brakes are applied.
16. Keep A9 in release and recharge BP pressure and ensure conjunction brakes are released.
17. If conjunction brakes are not releasing pull QRV (Quick Release Valve) of C3W DV.
18. Apply SA9 and ensure BC 3.5kg/cm 2.
19. Conduct loco brake power test & loco brake feel test before starting the loco.

Suggestion:
1. Correct procedure of cab changing in Conventional MU loco.
2. First apply SA-9 in leading loco, then proceed to other loco with BL, ZPT, MPJ keys.
3. Do not change any pneumatic COC position.
4. Proceed to trailing loco, first apply SA-9, open inlet/outlet COC of A9, SA9, L&T (A-8) & IP COC
and change MU2B to “LEAD”.
5. Proceed to earlier leading loco (now trailing) & close inlet/outlet COC of A9, SA9, L&T (A-8) &
IP COC and change MU2B to “TRAIL”.
