Recognizing the country’s demand for better leadership and good governance, the

researcher utilized a qualitative-phenomenological research design in conducting an in-

depth study on twelve college student-leaders of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa

so as to understand the leadership perceptions of the participants through their lived

experiences. In order to address the main problem, the researcher focused on discovering

what have the participants experienced in being student leaders and how have they

developed their sense of leadership.

The findings revealed that student leaders are intrinsically motivated to lead for

they experience fulfillment in performing their responsibilities as leaders despite the

challenges that come along with it. Furthermore, they develop their sense of leadership

through exposure to real life leadership scenarios. In addition, their concept of effective

leadership is highly influenced by environmental factors.

Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

The Introduction answers the questions.

- What is the research topic? (AREA OF INTEREST)

- What were the findings of previous authors who worked on it?

(DEVELOP THE BACKGROUND)

- What gap or need have you identified from previous researches?

(INTRODUCE THE PROBLEM)

- What do I expect to accomplish (objectives) or prove (hypothesis)?

(STATE THE PURPOSE AND THE RATIONALE)

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework

What to do

a. Specify the theory used as basis for the study,

b. Mention the proponents of the theory,
c. Cite the main points emphasized in the theory,
d. Support his exposition of the theory by ideas from the other experts,
e. Illustrate his theoretical framework by means of diagram/paradigm; and

f. End up by reiterating his theoretical proposition in the study

Statement of the Problem

This study will determine the impact of info commercials on the product

preferences of teenagers. Specifically, this will seek answers to the following research

questions:

3. etc.

Assumptions of the study (Based on research questions

1. The participants experienced….

2.

Scope and Delimitation

The scope and delimitation of the study align and focuses the research on the

desired and expected perspective

This can be defined in terms of:

a. Geographical area What is the geographical coverage?

b. Time Frame What is the time limit?

c. Variables What variables are included? Excluded?

d. Unit of Analysis What is being studied? Individuals? Groups?

Definition of Terms

For a better understanding of the discussions of this paper, the following terms are

defined both conceptually and operationally.

Mastery. A construct that cannot be observed directly but can be inferred from

observable performance on a set of items or tasks related to a particular concept, skill, or

subject (Author, 2020)

STEM. this strand is designed for students who desired to pursue college degrees

centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Mean. implies average and it is the sum of a set of data divided by the number of data.

Pre-test. a test given to determine if students are sufficiently prepared to begin a new

course of study (Author, 2020).

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The Secret of Research Novelty: Reconnaissance

Consider the following:

1. Good research is good because it advances our collective understanding To

advance our collective understanding, a researcher or scholar needs to understand

what has been done before, the strengths and weaknesses of existing studies, and

what they might mean.

2. Generativity in one of the hallmarks of scholarship (Shulman, 1999, p. 162-163).

It is the ability to build on the scholarship and research of those who have come

before us. It grants our work integrity and sophistication.

3. To be useful and meaningfal, education research must be cumulative; it must

build on and learn from prior research and scholarship on the topic. 4. 4. A good

synthetic review has three characteristics (Strike & Posner, 1983, 356-357)

a. It clarifies and perhaps resolves the problems within a field of study rather

than glossing over those problems.

b. It results in a progressive shift that yields a new perspective on the

literature with more explanatory and predictive power than is offered by

existing perspectives.
University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – JONELTA
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
Basic Education Department

c. It satisfies the formal criteria of a good theory.

Gap/s that the Present Study Will Bridge

From the above review of related literature and studies, the following gaps were

determined:

1. There were no study yet conducted on status and prospects of research

services of SUCs in the region.

2. There was no study yet conducted on the relationship between level of

research effectiveness and prospects and the MGOs and the status of the

internal and external environment of research services.

In view of the identified gaps, the present study is determined to

look into the status and prospects of research services of SUCs in the

region.
