1. ONLINE
LECTURES
• Every Monday, I will release the
lectures for the week.
• 3-6 lectures will be posted each
time and links to some
documentaries.
• Most are 6-12 minutes long.
• They are of high quality. Some
have music and video clips
inserted.
• Watch on a big screen!
• You must watch them in the
right order or they won’t make
sense.
• They are in MP4 format. A PDF
of the slides will also be
provided.

3. THREE SHORT OPEN-
BOOK QUIZZES

• Scheduled outside of normal class hours


on Saturdays at 10am on Canvas
• I expect you to take them independently
without communicating with other
students.
• They will mostly be multiple choice and
maybe one or two short answers.
• I will drop the lowest score. So if you have
to miss a quiz, it will not affect your Final

4. FINAL EXAMINATION
• Proctored face-to-face at HKUST (Covid
restrictions permitting)
• Scheduled during the University
Examination Timetable (17-19th Dec)
• Closed book
• Cumulative. It will cover the entire course
• Attendance is required.

Coverage of quizzes and Final Examination

• The quizzes and Final Exam will cover lectures, readings and
content of the Discussion Forums (where they are relevant to the
course materials).
• Not memory tests of names or specific dates. I will ask you about
concepts and to give examples of concepts as well as about the
results of the studies presented.
• Pay attention to the words in green and the questions I ask about
the readings.
• I will give you some sample questions closer to the quizzes and
exam

EXERCISE
• There will be a short written
exercise (approx. 500-1000
words) which will allow you to
undertake your own sociological
research/analysis.
• The exercise will be completed
individually.
• More details about the exercise will
be made after the add/drop period.

• The exercise will be due for online


submission by midnight on Nov 7th.
I may share the best exercises with
the class.
