 Former Bureaucrat Arun Goyal appointed as Election Commissioner:- A retired IAS


officer of the Punjab cadre Arun Goel has been appointed as the Election Commissioner.
The Minister of Law and Justice on November 19, 2022, notified the appointment made by
the President of India Droupadi Murmu. He will join the officeon November 21. As per
the official notification, “The President is pleased to appoint Arun Goel, IAS (Retd.) (PB:
1985) as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with an effect from the
date he assumes office”.

 Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta elected as a Member of CIPM:- Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta was
Elected as a Member of the International Committee for Weight and Measures (CIPM) on
21 Nov 22. Prof. Gopal was declared an elected Member of CIPM during the 27th General
Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) meeting in Paris, France.
Prof. Achanta is
among 18 elected members from different countries and the 7th personality in Indian
history elected to CIPM.

 13th bilateral naval exercise Naseem Al Bahr-2022:- The 13th edition of bilateral exercise
between the Indian and the Royal Oman navies, Naseem Al Bahr
-2022, commenced off the
coast of Oman on 20 November 2022. The exercise is being conducted in two phases: the
Harbour Phase and the Sea Phase. The Indian Navy’s guided mi
ssile frigate Trikand and
Offshore Patrol Vessel Sumitra, with their integral helicopters, and the maritime patrol
aircraft, Dornier, are participating in the exercise
.

 First batch of students from Tamil Nadu reach Prayagraj:- The first batch of students from
Tamilnadu who are visiting Kashi under the one
-month-long Kashi Tamil Sangamam
program reached Prayagraj on November21, 2022. They will visit the Sangam area, Lete
Hanuman temple, Aadi Shankar Viman mandapam temple
, Akshay Vat, and other
prominent places. The Sangamam will continue till 16th December 2022.

 Jitendra Singh to inaugurate 25th ‘National Conference on e-Governance’:- Union


Minister Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the 25th National Conference on -Governance
e
(NCEG) in Jammu and Kashmir on November 26, 2022. The National Awards for e-
Governance (NAEG) will be presented under five categories of the NAEG Scheme 2022.
The theme of this Conference is"Bringing Citizens,Industry and Government closer".

 Kathak exponent Uma Sharma received ‘Sumitra Charat Ram Award’:- Kathak exponent
Dr. Uma Sharma has received the prestigious ‘Sumitra Charat Ram Award’ for Lifetime
Achievement in recognition of her contribution in the field of Indian classical music and
dance. She is a renowned classical dancer who has been awarded Padma Shri (1973) and
Padma Bhushan (2001) for her unique contribution to the cultural tradition of this country.
She received the award from former governor of Jammu and Kashmir Karan Singh and
Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in a ceremony organized at Kamani Auditorium by
Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra (SBKK).

 India to assume chair of Global Partnership on AI for 2022-23:- India will take over the
Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 2022
-23 at a meeting of
the body in Tokyo, Japan on November 21, 2022. India, in the election to the Council of
Chair, had received more than a two-thirds majority of first-preference votes while Canada
and the United States ranked in the next two best places in the tally, so they were elected to
the two additional government seats on the steering committee.

 Franca Ma-ih Sulem Yong gets UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for 2022:- The
UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non
-Violence, for
this 2022 Edition, has been given to Franca Ma
-ih Sulem Yong from Cameroon,President
of the NGOs #Afrogiveness and Positive Youths Africa. The Prize is named after its
benefactor, former Indian artist, writer and diplomat Madanjeet Singh (1924
-2013) who
was also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

 Khalid Jawed wins the 2022 ‘JCB Prize for Literature’:- Author Khalid Jawed’s “The
Paradise of Food”, translated by Baran Farooqi from Urdu, won the fifth JCB Prize for
Literature. The book, originally published as “Ne’mat Khana” in 2014, is the fourth
translation to win the award and the first work in Urdu. “The Paradise of Food” tells the
story of a middle-class joint Muslim family over a span of fifty years where the narrator
struggles to find a place for himself, at odds in his home and the world outside.

 Chiranjeevi named the India Film Personality of the Year 2022 at IFFI:- Indian actor
Chiranjeevi was named the India Film Personality of the Year 2022 at 53rd International
Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 20 November 2022.Actor Chiranjeevi has starred
in over 150 films in his career.He has acted in Telegu, Tamil, and Hindi movies.In 2006,
he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.

 Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launches '53 hours Challenge':- Union Minister for
Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur
inaugurated '53 Hours Challenge' for '75 Creative Minds' on 21 November 2022.The
competition will challenge the winners of '75 Cr
eative Minds for Tomorrow' to produce a
short film on their idea of India@100, all in 53 hours.This is powered by National Film
Development Corporation (NDFC).

 WHO to identify pathogens that could cause future outbreak:- The World Health
Organisation (WHO) said on November 21, 2022, that it was thrashing out a new list of
priority pathogens that risk sparking pandemics or outbreaks and are required to be kept
under close observation. As part of the proc
ess, the United Nations health agency is
convening over 300 scientists to consider the evidence on more than 25 viruses and families
and bacteria. The updated list of pathogens that could cause future pandemics is expected to
be out by early 2023. The listwas first published in 2017.

 N Jagadeesan sets record with 5 consecutive tons in Vijay Hazare event

broke the world record and became the first player to score five consecutive centuries, the
first by an Indian. Jagadeesan achieved the feat during the round six group stage match of

 Asian Cup Table Tennis 2022:- Indian Table Tennis Player Manika Batra defeated World
No. 6 Hina Hayata of Japan in the Asian Cup 2022 women’s singles bronze medal match in
Bangkok, Thailand on November 18, 2022. With the win, Manika Batra became the first
Indian woman to win a medal at the Asian Cup Table Tennis Tournament. It is also India's
third medal at the continent’s meet, with Chetan Baboor winning Silver in 1997 and
Bronze in 2000. He was the only Indian Table Tennis play
er to win a medal at the Asian
Cup before this. The Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also appreciated Manika Batra’s
achievement via Twitter and also complimented India’s improving performance in sports.

 Sebastian Vettel retires from Formula One racing:- Sebastian Vettel has retired from
Formula One racing. In the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 20, 2022, Sebastian
Vettel finished in the 10th place, the last one of his career.Sebastian Vettel won four
Formula One World Championships between 2010 and 2013 while competing for Red
Bull. Vettel received a guard of honour from his fellow competitors before the race.
