Marriage does matter. After all, were all in this together. As members of society, we count on each other every day to keep our commitments. We feel more secure when we can depend on others. Although marriage has changed a great deal (see A Snapshot of Marriage in the U.S.), the benefits of marriage endure. Social science research confirms that marriage is an important social good that brings a wide range of positive outcomes for adults and children alike. Read more about these benefits of marriage: On average, married people are better off financially. Marriage is associated with better health, sex and safety for men and women. Children do better when they live with their own two married parents. For more articles look at www.foryourmarriage.org. This weekend at each Mass we will have a blessing for married couples.

Our staff would like to take a moment to thank Fr. Peter, the parishioners, families of the Academy, volunteers, and friends for a wonderful year! Summer is here and we are busy getting ready for next year! We are wrapping up cleaning and maintenance on the building, planning professional development for our teachers, setting long term and short term goals for the curriculum, maintaining the website, marketing our registration, planning to host an early education seminar for the Diocese of Joliet preschool teachers and directors in August, planning service projects, etc. Hopefully the month of July will be a time of rest and relaxation to gear up for August and our new year ahead. Fr. Peter has spent a lot of time being our shepherd at the Academy. The students look forward to his visits with great enthusiasm! He usually brings the children treats, like lollipops, cookies, cupcakes, pizza, and juice boxes! He brings the staff step stools for the sink, lunch, and religious items for our chapel or classrooms. He is one of the few priests I have ever seen actually sit with the children on the floor to play with the trains! He also loves to read to the students, tells them bible stories, teaches them the sign of the cross, prays with them, and encourages them to sing with all their heart! He also includes the kindergarten students in the masses that we attendgiving homilies that incorporate their participation and makes them feel special! He noticed our flag was in a state of disrepair and got a donation from a gentleman for a new, beautiful flag! He has tolerated our messes in art and projects knowing that there is a lot of learning going on at our Academy! We hope he gets a little break this summer and will pray for him! I would like to thank all those who collect and bring in Campbell Soup labelswe were able to use points to have a three hoop apparatus that slips over a regular basketball hoop in our gym, so that the children can practice easier shooting hoops! Its awesome! Box Tops have really come in handy, so please continue to send those in as well. The Box Tops pay for our CPR certification of our teachers, Catholic Schools Week, etc. Small containers are in the narthex of the church for the collection of these items, so please dont forget to bring them in over the summer! May God bless you and keep you safe during the summer. Mrs. Placey
As I reflect on this year's Youth Leadership Conference, one very important takeaway message continues to echo in my mind, and is a message that I wish to share with our parishioners at Christ the King. What I have learned is that for Parish Ministry to be effective, three things have to happen. 1) First, SHOW UP: While it seems like something so simple, you need to come to church in order to be effective in your ministry. Church provides not only the scriptural message and proclamation of the Gospel, which gives us direction, it also provides the community for us to join forces with others who share in our faith and in our mission. 2) Second, STEP UP: And this is meant to be literal in stepping up to the table to receive the Body of Christ to become the Body of Christ to others. Stepping up in a figurative sense also means coming forward with a commitment to serve our church and our community to share our time, talent, treasures, and prayers. 3) Third, STEP OUT: As you have told us countless times, the doors of the church are service doors, not merely exit doors. There lies the opportunities to respond to God's calling, to match our gifts with the needs of others and to be the answer to the prayers of others. So simple, yet so memorable. SHOW UP, STEP UP, STEP OUT. The youths of our parish who represented us as leaders at this diocesan event are true disciples of Christ. They are the visible young servants who have shown up, stepped up, and stepped out. They are now commissioned to work to sustain and grow this ministry. With the continued prayers and support, under the leadership of Sherry Rochford and volunteer Youth Ministers, this inspired team understands that it is not the number of followers that provides a true measure of success, but the ability to continuously respond to God's calling and to the needs of His people. Even Jesus in all of His infinite power, started with a mere Twelve, who were not natural-born leaders, and turned those men into His Disciples in forming the Church. We must therefore focus NOT on who is absent, but recognize those who are PRESENT and are responding to the call. Thanks to you and our parishioners for the support that makes this event possible for us to attend. My time at this conference is always fulfilling and serves to provide the spiritual energy that is needed to minister to the Confirmands, teens, and young adults of Christ the King Parish. In the Love of Christ, Dr. Jack A. Maggiore
