    Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998

    LOLER.
    Criteria.

    A thorough examination of the lifting equipment is to be done:


    Before the first time use.
    Every six months when it is used for lifting people.
    Every twelve months for other lifting equipment.
    In circumstances where the safety of the equipment may be effected (such
    as severe weather conditions).
    After it has been re-located an assembled.
    Any part of a maintenance or inspection program that has been
    implemented.

    Lifting Equipment.
    Forklift Truck.
    Crane.
    Elevator.
    Conveyors.
    Lifts.
    Hoist.
    Slings.
    Chains.

    Lifting operations.
    Equipment should be visibly marked with the safe working load (SWL) and
    this should not be exceeded.
    Strong, stable and suitable equipment to be used.
    Installed and positioned correctly.
    The operation should be planned, supervised and performed by competent
    people only.
