3.Objective
In this project I have tried to find the speed of seeds sprouting
1.Chickpea
2.Green gram

4.Apparatus
1. A paper and pencil to note the results
2.Camera for taking pictures
3. Chickpea and Green gram
4. Water to soak them
5. 2 Bowl to soak in it
6. Cloth
7. A tray to keep them

5.Some Information

a)The chickpea or chick pea (cicer arietinum) is an annual legume of the family fabaceae,
subfamily faboideae. Its
Kingdom Plantae
Clade Tracheophytes different types are variously
Clade Angiosperms known as gram or Bengal
Clade Eudicots gram garbanzo or garbanzo
Clade Rosids bean, or Egyptian
Order Fabales pea Chickpea seeds are high
Family Fabaceae in protein. It is one of the
Genus Cicer earliest cultivated legumes,
Species C.arietinum and 9500-year-old remains
have been found in
the Middle East.

b) The green gram or moong gram (Vigna radiata), is a plant species in the legume family. The
moong bean is mainly cultivated in East, Southeast and South Asia. It is used as an ingredient in
both savoury and sweet dishes.
Kingdom Plantae
Clade Tracheophytes
Clade Angiosperms
Clade Eudoits
Clade Rosids
Order Fabales
Family Fabaceae
Genus Vigna
Species V.radiata 6.Method
1.Wash the Chickpea and Green gram
2.Soak it in two different bowls for overnight (around 7-8 hours)
3.Next day, drain out the water and again wash it
4.Tie them in two different piece of cloth of your choice
5.Hang it
6. Splash some water onto the hung cloth of the gram
7.Note the observation

7.Observation
Day 1
On the day of soaking them

Fig1
Day2

Fig2.1 Fig2.2
The grams have soaked water and are swelled the grams in two piece of cloth and
hung it around a tap or a window.

Fig 2.3 Fig 2.4

Day3
We can see a little sprouts
Fig3.1 Fig3.2

In the evening, we can see the sprout has grown a bit more in chickpea where as there is no
change or growth in the green gram.

Fig3.3 Fig3.4
Day 4

Fig4.1 Fig4.2
We can see that both the grams have sprouted well

8.Result
In the given observation information, I have observed that both the grams took equal time in
soaking in Day 1. Day 3 also they took same time to show a little sprouting. But on day 4 I saw
that green gram was growing faster than the Chickpea. On the day 4 I observed both the seeds
have sprouted well . Even though the speed of Sprouting differs in both the grams

9.Conclusion
I conclude that from my observations different seeds take different time period to sprout
depending upon the quality also. Seeds have the ability to germinate in the presence of
moisture, air, and light under the right temperature, even in the absence of soil.
