Answer All the Questions

1. The one-line diagram of a power system is shown in Fig. 1. By selecting a common base of 100 MVA and 22 kV
on the generator side, draw impedance and reactance diagrams showing all impedances including the load
impedance in per-unit. The data are given as follows:

G: 90 MVA 22 kV x = 0.18 pu
T1: 50 MVA 22/220 kV x = 0.10 pu
T2: 40 MVA 220/11 kV x = 0.06 pu
T3: 40 MVA 22/110 kV x = 0.064 pu
T4: 40 MVA 110/11 kV x = 0.08 pu
M: 66.5 MVA 10.45 kV x = 0.185 pu
Lines 1 and 2 have series reactances of 48.4 Ω and 65.43 Ω, respectively. At bus 4, the three-phase load absorbs
57MVA at 10.45 kV and 0.6 power factor lagging. [4 M]

3. Determine the bus admittance matrix for the network shown in Fig. 3 [4 M]

4. The single line diagram of a three bus power systems is shown in Fig. 4. BUS 3 is a 𝑃|𝑉| bus.

a. Assume initial voltage 𝑉2 = 1.0 + 𝑗0.0 𝑝𝑢 and 𝑉3 = 1.03 + 𝑗0.0 𝑝𝑢 and keeping |𝑉3 | = 1.03 𝑝𝑢,
determine 𝑉2 and 𝑉3 using Gauss-Seidel method. Perform one iteration
b. Calculate line flows and line losses
c. Calculate slack bus power [7 M]

Fig. 4
5. In the two-bus system shown in Fig. 5, bus 1 is a slack bus with 𝑉1 = 1.0∠0° 𝑝𝑢. A load of 150 MW and 50 Mvar
is taken from bus 2. The line admittance is𝑦12 = 10∠ − 73.74° 𝑝𝑢 on a base of 100 MVA. Using Newton-Raphson
method, obtain the voltage magnitude and phase angle of bus 2. Start with an initial estimate of |𝑉2 |(0) = 1.0 𝑝𝑢
and 𝛿2 (0) = 0°. Perform one iteration. [5 M]
