PRACTICAL TASK
IBS LIGHWEIGHT ROOF TRUSS INSTALLATION

IBS PRACTICAL TASK

1.0 OBJECTIVE
a. To know the exact materials to be used in practical work.
b. To know the function of tools to be used in practical work.
c. To understand sequence of installation process for IBS Roof Trusses.

2.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the practical, students should be able to apply the knowledge they have learned
to:
a. Assemble suitable green materials and IBS components with supervision
b. Demonstrate punctuality and responsibility in completing task of assembling green
system and IBS.

3.1 INTRODUCTION TO LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF TRUSS

Light gauge steel systems offer a strong, quality product and a fast and easy building process.
Constructing with steel results in unmatched strength in a structure’s ability to with stand wind loads,
weathering, water impacts, and interior dead loads. The final quality of a steel structure is quickly
recognizable: all corners are square, floorsare level, and walls are straight and plum. Light gauge steel roof
trusses are fabricated to exact measurements, avoiding the mold/mildew attack, dry rot, humidity, termite
damage, and eventual roof leaks wood roof trusses are prone to. The consistency of light gauge steel
structures also allows finishes to be standardized and installed more efficiently, including dorm frames,
window frames, trim work, cabinets, countertops, plumbing, and electrical work. This standardization and the
lightweight nature of light gauge steel leads to cost efficiency in the form of bulk discounts and lower
foundation costs. A light gauge steel building can also be designed and erected in a matter of months, not
years, so the return on your investment is realized faster and common delays that erode developer profits
are minimized.

The benefits of light gauge steel systems do not stop at the investing developer. The introduction of a new
technologically advanced building construction method into a developing country results in the creation of
new jobs and new trades for locals that offer higher pay. Local workers can easily be trained to learn how to
fabricate, panelise, and erect light gauge steel structures and engineers and architects can be trained to
design building systems using light gauge steel. Constructing buildings with light gauge steel is also more
logical and standard when it comes to interior finishes, mechanical/electrical/plumbing installation, kitchens,
and bathrooms. As a result, a work force can be trained in a much shorter period of time, becoming proficient
at accelerated work producing a high-quality product.

process

Sequence of Fabrication Process:

a) Check the actual size (dimension) on site

b) List each member and cut

c) Labelling of each member.

d) Trim and notch c-channel at its top, bottom & horizontal.

e) Setting & fabricate the truss members.

f) Dab the same truss & equivalents (size)

g) Stack & store the truss at the appropriate place.

process

Sequence of Installation Process

a) Marking & fix L - bracket on roof beam.
b) Hoist and sequence the truss on the roof beam as per drawing.
c) Stand the steel truss and fix the temporary bracing.
d) Install hip rafter and valley track (If any).
e) Install perimeter batten.
f) Install roof insulation.
g) Install roof batten.
h) Install lateral and diagonal bracing.
i) Tighten L – Bracket.
j) Install roof accessories (Fascia board etc.)
k) Perform visual inspection.
