Power Budget for HC side:

Definition: The power budget is the difference between the output power of the transmitter and
the input power requirements of the receiver.

There are 5 conditions to calculate the line loss:

1. Cable Distance and Loss per Km [This value should be obtained from the cable manufacturer, (0.25 dB @ 1490
and 0.35 @1310)]

Total Fiber Loss = Cable Distance x Loss per Km

= 0.25 dB (for 1km long)

2. Connector Pair Loss (typical 0.3 dB, max acceptable 0.75 dB) and Number of Connector Pairs
(This does not include the connectors that plug into the end equipment. )

Total Connector Loss = Connector Pair Loss x Number of Connector Pairs

2x0.3 = 0.6 dB

3. Individual Splice Loss (maximum value of 0.1 dB) and Number of Splices

Total Splice Loss = Individual Splice Loss x Number of Splices

3x0.1 = 0.3 dB

4. Total Other Components Loss (not included in our stage, e.g., optical power splitter, ….)
5. Other power penalties [e.g., macro bending, pigtail insertion loss(0.12dB), patch cord insertion
loss (0.3 dB)]

0.12x2 (pigtail losses) + 0.3 (patch cord loss) + 0.3(macro bend losses) = 0.85 dB

Max. allowed Losses = 0.25 + 0.6 + 0.3 + 0.85 = 2 dB.
