Dua of Umm Dawood

In the word of Shaykh al-Tusiy, in his book of ‘MiSbah al-Mutahajjid,’ one who intends to do
this act is required to observe fasting on the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days of
Rajab. At the midday of the fifteenth, one should bathe himself. After midday, one should
offer the obligatory Zuhr and `Asr Prayers so excellently that one should do all the parts
perfectly. It is advisable to be in a vacant place so as not to be engaged with anything and not
to be addressed by anyone. When the (obligatory) prayer is accomplished, one should face the
kiblah and recite Surah of al-Fatihah one hundred times, Surah of al-Tawhed one hundred
times, and Ayat al-Kursiy ten times. Afterward, Surahs of al-An`am (No. 6), al-Isra’ (also called
Bane-Isra'el; No. 17), al-Kahf (No. 18), Luqman (No. 31), Yasen (No. 36), al-Wasaffat (No. 37),
al-Zukhruf (No. 43), al-Shura (No. 42), Al-Dukhan (No. 44), al-Fath (No. 48), al-Waqi`ah (No.
56), al-Mulk (No. 67), al-Qalam (No. 68), al-Inshiqaq (No. 84) and all the Surahs following up to
the end of the Holy Qur'an.

After reciting all these Surahs, one may, still facing the kiblah, recite the following:

True are the words of Allah, the All- ْ

Allah bears witness that there is no shahida allahu annhu la ilaha illa

god but He, huwa َُ َ
and (so do) the angels and those ْ ْ ْ
wal-mala’ikatu wa ulu al`ilmi ‫كة ُوأُولُو ال ِعل ِم‬ َ ‫الئ‬

possessed of knowledge, َ
maintaining His creation with justice; qa’iman bilqisti ‫ط‬ ‫س‬ ْ ‫قائما ًبالْق‬

there is no god but He, the Mighty, la ilaha illa huwa al`azezu ْ ْ
،‫كي‬ِ ‫يز ال َح‬ ‫هو الع ِز‬ ‫ال إهل إال‬

and His noble Messengers have ْ ْ
wa ballaghat rusuluhu alkiramu ‫كرام‬ ِ ‫وب هل َ َغت ر ُس ُِل ال‬

and I am of those who bear witness wa ana `ala dhalika mina

and to You belongs holiness, wa laka alttaqdesu ،‫التق ِديس‬

and to You belongs the confession of ْ ‫ولك‬

Your being the One and Only God, َ‫َ َ َ ه‬
and to You belongs the confession of

and to You belongs that which is

seen,

and to You belongs that which is not
wa laka ma la yura ،‫ك ما ال يرى‬ ‫ول‬

and to You belongs that which is far wa laka ma fawqa alssmawati ْ ْ ‫ولك ما ف‬

above the high heavens, al`ula َ َ َ‫َ َ َ َ َ َ ه‬
and to You belongs that which is
wa laka ma tahta alththara

deep down under the abyss,

and to You belong the worlds below ْ
wa laka alarazuna alssufla ،‫السف ََل‬

and to You belong the end and the

Paradise,

and upon the keepers of Hellfire, wa khazanati alnnerani ،‫ان‬ ِ ‫ري‬ َ ‫النه‬ ِ ‫خ َز َن ِة‬ َ ‫َو‬
and upon the Angel of Death and his
wa malaki almawti wal-a`wani ،‫ان‬ ‫و‬ ‫ع‬

You are verily worthy of all praise,
innaka hamedun majedun ‫ْحيد م ِجيد‬ ‫إنك‬

O Allah: send blessings upon the allahumma Salli `ala alawSya‘i َ
Successors: the happy, wal-ssu`ada‘i

the witnesses, and the leaders to the wal-shshuhada‘i wa aiimmati

Substitutes (whom shall be given the

favor of participating with Imam al-
awtadi ‫أل ْو َتا ِد‬

Mahdi’s campaigns) and the loftiest َ
personalities,
and those observing fasting with ْ
devotion, and those who ardently wal-ssiyyahi wal-`ubbadi ِ َ‫الس هي‬

and those whom You have chosen, ْ ْ
wal-mukhliSena wal-zzuhhadi ‫الز ه َها ِد‬

Household exclusively the best of
wakhSuS muhammadan wa ahla َ َ َ ُ ُ َ
Your blessings,
baytihi biafzali Salawatika ْ
،‫ك‬ َ ‫ض ِل َص َل َوا ِت‬ َ ‫ِبأَف‬
and the most abundant of Your
wa ajzali karamatika

favors, ،‫ك‬ َ ‫اما ِت‬ ‫كر‬ َ ‫وأَجز ِل‬

and convey to his soul and body my wa ballgh ruhahu wa jasadahu
‫وب ِهلغ روحه ُوجس َده ِم ِنهي َت ِح هيَ ًة‬

greetings and compliments, minny tahiyyatan wa salaman ً

and give him more favors, honor, wa zidhu fazlan wa sharafan wa ً ً ً ْ ْ
and esteem, karaman ‫كرما‬
ََ ‫َو ِزده ُفَضال َو َش َرفا َو‬

so that You will make him attain the
hatta tuballghahu a`la darajati
‫ات أَه ِل‬ ِ ‫ج‬ ‫ح ه َتى تُب ِهل َغه ُأَع ََل در‬
most elevated ranks of the honored

ahli alshsharafi
ones, ‫الّش ِف‬ َ‫ه‬

among the Prophets and the mina alnnabiyyena wal- ْ ْ
Messengers, mursalena َ ِ َ ُ ‫ني َوال‬
‫ني‬ ‫ل‬ ‫س‬ ‫ر‬ ‫م‬ َ ‫ن النه َ ِب ِ هي‬ َ
‫ِم‬

and the virtuous, favorable ones. wal-afazili almuqarrbena ،‫ني‬
َ ِ َ ‫اض ِل ال ُ َ ه‬
‫ب‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ق‬ ‫م‬ ِ َ‫ألف‬ َ ‫وا‬
َ
O Allah: send blessings upon those
ْ ‫ن َس ْيت وم‬
‫ن‬ ْ ‫الله وص هل عَل م‬
whose names I have mentioned or I
allahumma wa Salli `ala man َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ِ َ َ َ‫ه ُ ه‬
َ ‫ه‬
sammetu wa man lam a’usammi
have not, ‫لَ ْم أُس ِم‬
‫َ ه‬

among Your angels and Prophets min mala’ikatika wa anbiya’ika ‫ك‬َ ‫ائ‬ ِ ‫ك َوأَن ِب َي‬ َ ‫ك ِت‬ َ ‫الئ‬ِ ‫ِمن َم‬
and Messengers and obedient ْ
wa rusulika wa ahli ta`atika ،‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫اع‬ ‫ط‬ ‫ل‬
servants. َ َ ِ َ ِ َ ‫ك َوأ‬
‫ه‬ َ ‫َو ُر ُس ِل‬
ْ ْ ْ ْ
‫إَل‬
َ ‫ْيم َو‬ ِ َ‫َوأَو ِصل َص َل َو ِاِت إل‬
and convey my prayers of sending wa awSil Salawaty ilayhim wa ila
blessings to them and to their souls, arwahihim ْ ْ
‫ح ِه‬ِ ‫أَر َوا‬
ْ ْ ْ ْ
and make them my brethren in You, waj`alhum ikhwany feka ،‫يك‬ َ ِ‫َواج َعل ُه إخ َو ِاِن ف‬
ْ
and my helpers in my praying You. wa a`wany `ala du`a’ika .‫ك‬ َ ‫ائ‬ِ ‫َوأَع َو ِاِن َع ََل د ُ َع‬
O Allah: I seek Your intercession for allahumma inne astashfi`u bika
،‫ك‬ ْ ‫الله إِن أ ْست ْشفع بك إل‬
‫ي‬
me to You, ilayka َ َ َ ِ ُ ِ َ َ ‫ه ُ هَ ِ ه‬
and I seek Your honor in the name of
wa bikaramika ila karamika ،‫ك‬
Your honor, َ ‫ك َر ِم‬ َ ‫إَل‬ َ ‫ك‬ َ ‫ك َر ِم‬ َ ‫َو ِب‬
and I seek Your magnanimity in the
wa bijudika ila judika ،‫إَل جو ِد َك‬ ‫وبجودك‬
name of Your magnanimity, ُ َ َ ِ ُ ِ َ
and I seek Your mercy in the name of ْ ْ
wa birahmatika ila rahmatika ،‫ك‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ْح‬ ‫ر‬ ‫إَل‬ ‫ك‬
Your mercy, َ َ َ ِ َ َ َ ‫َو ِب َر‬
‫ت‬

and in the name of the people of the
wa biahli ta`atika ilayka .‫ك‬ ْ ‫وبأ ْهل طاعتك إل‬
‫ي‬
obedience to You. َ َ َ ِ َ َ ِ َِ َ
and I thus beseech You, O Allah, in

the name of all the things by whose wa asaluk allahumma bikull ma َ َ

names those people have besought salaka bihi ahadun minhum ْ
You, ‫أَحد ِمْنُ ْم‬

including the honorable requests min masalatin sharefatin ghayri ْ ْ ‫نم‬ ْ ‫م‬
،‫ري م ْردودة‬ ‫يفة َغ‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ش‬ ‫َل‬ ‫أ‬ ‫س‬
that is never rejected by You, mardudatin َ ُ َ ِ َ َ ِ َ َ َ ِ

and all the responded and non- wa bima da`awka bihi min ‫ن دعوة مجابة‬ ‫و ِبما دع ْو َك ِب ِه ِم‬
disappointing prayers that they have da`watin mujabatin ghayri َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ َ َ

asked from You mukhayyibatin ،‫خ ِ هيبة‬ ‫م‬ ‫ري‬ ‫غ‬

O the All-forbearing; O the All-

ya naffa`u ya ra’ufu ya `atufu ‫وف‬

O the Securer; O the Healer; ya kafe ya shafe ‫اِف‬

O the All-competent; O the Creator ْ
ya muqtadiru ya musabbibu ‫يا مقت ِدر يا مس هِبب‬
of causes; ُ َ ُ َ ُ َ ُ َ
O the Aide; O the Grantor of wealth; ya mughethu yamughny ya ْ ْ
‫يث يامغ ِني يا مق ِني‬ ‫يا مغ‬
O the Giver to hold; muqny ُ َ ُ َ ُ ُِ َ
O the Creator; O the Onlooker; O the
ya khaliqu ya raSidu ya wahidu ‫د‬
One; ُ ‫ح‬ِ ‫د َيا َوا‬ ُ ‫اص‬ ِ ‫خالِ ُق َيا ر‬
َ َ ‫َيا‬
O the Present; O the Mender; ya haziru ya jabiru ‫ابر‬ ‫اضر يا ج‬ ِ ‫ح‬ ‫يا‬
ُ ِ َ َ ُ َ َ
O the Safeguarding; O the Firm (in
yahafizu ya shadedu ‫يد‬
punishment); ُ ‫ظ َيا َش ِد‬ ُ ‫احا ِف‬ َ َ
‫ي‬
O the Aid; O the Donor; O the
ya ghiyathu ya `a’idu ya qabizu ‫ض‬
Straitening; ُ ‫اب‬ِ ‫د َيا َق‬ ُ ‫ائ‬ ِ ‫اث َيا َع‬ ُ ‫َيا ِغ َي‬
O He Who has mounted to the most
ya man `ala fasta`la
ْ ْ ْ ‫يا م‬
elevated point; ‫استع ََل‬ ‫ن عال َف‬
َ َ َ َ
He thus occupies the most exalted ْ ْ ْ
fakana bilmanzari ala`la ،‫ألع ََل‬
َ ‫ان ِبال َمنظَ ِر ا‬ ‫فك‬
site; َ َ َ
O He Who has approached so closely
that He has become the nearest of ya man qaruba fadana ،‫ن َقرب فَ َد َنا‬ ْ ‫يا م‬
all things; َ ُ َ َ
and, at the same time, He has been
wa ba`uda fanaa ،‫وب ُع َد فَنَأَى‬
so far that He is in the furthest point; َ َ
and He has known the secret and ْ
wa `alima alssrr wa akhfa ،‫الس وأَخ َفى‬ ‫وعلم‬
even what is more hidden; َ َ ‫َ َ ِ َ ِه ه‬
O He to Whom all management is ْ ْ
ya man ilayhi alttdberu wa lahu
relegated and to Whom all measures
almaqaderu ،‫التد ِبري ُو َهل الم َقا ِدير‬َ ‫ه‬ ‫ن إلَ ْي ِه‬
ْ ‫يا م‬
are referred; ُ َ ُ َ َ َ
ْ ْ ْ
‫ن الع ِسري ُع َلي ِه سهل‬ ‫ويا م‬
O He for Whom the most difficult wa ya mani al`aseru `alayhi َ َ َ ِ َ َ َ
thing is easy and simple; sahlun yaserun
،‫ي َ ِسري‬
O He Who has power over anything ya man huwa `ala ma yasha‘u ْ ‫يا م‬
that He wills; qaderun ،‫هو ع ََل ما ي َ َشاء َق ِدير‬ ُ ‫ن‬
ُ َ َ َ َ َ
O He Who sends forth the wind; ya mursila alrriyahi ،‫اح‬ ِ ‫الري‬ ‫يا م ْر ِسل‬
َ ‫َ ِه‬ ُ َ
O He Who causes the dawn to break; ya faliqa aliSbahi ،‫اح‬ ِ ‫اإلصب‬ ْ ‫يا فالق‬
َ َِ َ َ
O He Who revives the spirits; ya ba`itha alarwahi ِ ‫أل ْرو‬
،‫اح‬ َ ‫ثا‬ َ ‫اع‬ ِ ‫َيا َب‬
َ
O the Lord of magnanimity and ْ
lenience;
ya dhaljudi wal-ssamahi ،‫اح‬ ِ ‫يا َذا الجو ِد والسم‬
َ َ‫ُ َ ه‬ َ
O He Who has the power to restore ْ
ya radda ma qad fata ،‫ات‬
that which has been missed; َ َ‫اد َما َقد ف‬ َ ‫َيا َر ه‬
O He Who resurrects the dead ْ ‫يا ناشر ا‬
ya nashira alamwati ،‫ات‬ ِ ‫ألمو‬ َ ِ
bodies; َ َ َ َ
O He Who draws together the
ya jami`a alshshatati ،‫ات‬ ِ ‫الش َت‬ َ ‫جا ِم َع ه‬ ‫يا‬
dispersal; َ َ
O He Who provides sustenance to ْ
ya raziqa man yasha‘u bighayri ْ ‫يا رازق م‬
whomever He wants without ،‫حساب‬ ِ ‫ري‬ ‫ن ي َ َشاء ِب َغ‬
measure;
hisabin َ ِ ُ َ َ ِ َ َ
O He Who has the power to do wa ya fa`ila ma yasha‘u kayfa
whatever He wills however He wills; yasha‘u ،‫ف ي َ َشاء‬ َ ‫ك ْي‬ َ ُ ‫اع َل َما ي َ َشاء‬ ِ َ‫َو َيا ف‬

O the Lord of Majesty and Honor; wa ya dhaljalali wal-ikrami ،‫الل واإلكر ِام‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ويا ذا ال‬

O the Ever-living; O the Eternal; ya hayyu ya qayyumu ،‫ح يا َق هيُوم‬ ‫يا‬
ُ َ ُ‫َ َ ه‬
O He Who existed when there
ya hayyan hena la hayya
ً
existed nothing else; ،‫ح‬ُ‫َ َ ه‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ني‬ ‫ح‬
ِ ‫يا ح هيا‬

O the Ever-living; O the Reviver of ْ ْ
ya hayyu ya muhiyya almawta ،‫ح يا مح ِيي الم ْو ََت‬ ‫يا‬
the dead; َ َ ُ َ ُ‫َ َ ه‬
O the Ever-living; there is no god ْ
ya hayyu la ilaha illa anta ‫ال أَنت‬ ‫اح ال إهل إ‬
save You; َ ‫َ ه‬ ُ ‫َي َ ه‬
the excellent Maker of the heavens
bade`u alssmawati wal-arzi .‫أل ْر ِض‬
َ ‫ات وا‬ ‫بديع السماو‬
and the earth. َ ِ َ َ َ‫َ ِ ُ ه‬
O my God and my Master: ya ilahy wa sayyidy ‫يا إْلِي وس ِ هي ِدي‬

and have mercy upon Muhammad warham muhammadan wa ala ْ ‫و‬
and the Household of Muhammad muhammadin ،‫آل مح ه َمد‬ َ

and send benedictions upon ْ
wa barik `ala muhammadin wa
Muhammad and the Household of ،‫آل مح ه َمد‬ ‫و‬ ‫د‬ ‫م‬ ‫ح‬ ‫م‬ ‫َل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ك‬ ‫وبار‬

in the same way as You have sent
kama Sallayta wa barakta wa ‫كما صله َ ْيت وباركت ور ِْحْت‬
blessings and benedictions and had
rahimta `ala ibrahema wa ali
َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ
mercy upon Ibraham and the ْ ْ ‫عَل‬
ibrahema ،‫اهي‬
household of Ibraham. ِ ‫آل إبر‬ ِ ‫اهي و‬
َ َ ِ ‫إبر‬ َ َ
َ َ َ
You are verily worthy of all praise
innaka hamedun majedun ،‫ْحيد م ِجيد‬ ‫إنك‬
and full of all glory. َ ِ َ َ َ‫ه‬
and have mercy upon my humiliation ْ ‫ار‬ ْ ‫و‬
warham dhully wa faqaty ‫اق ِتي‬
and neediness, َ َ‫حم ذ ُ ِ هل َوف‬ َ َ
and upon my poverty and loneliness ْ ْ ْ
wa faqry wanfirady wa wahdate ،‫وفَق ِري وان ِفرا ِدي ووح َد ِِت‬
and aloneness, َ َ َ َ

ْ ْ
and my humbleness before You wa khuzu`y bayna yadayka ،‫ك‬ َ ‫ني َي َدي‬ َ ‫وعي َب‬ ِ ‫ض‬ ُ ُ‫َوخ‬
and my reliance upon You wa`timady `alayka ْ ‫اعتمادي عل‬ ْ
،‫ك‬َ َ َ ‫ي‬ ِ ِ ‫و‬
َ َ
and my submission before You. wa tazarr`y ilayka ،‫ك‬ ْ
َ ‫ض ه ُر ِعي إلَي‬ َ ‫َو َت‬
I implore You with the imploring of ْ ْ
ad`uka du`a‘a alkhazi`i aldhdhleli ‫يل‬ ‫ل‬ ‫اّل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫اض‬ ِ َ ‫وك د ُ َعاء ال‬
‫خ‬ ‫ع‬
the humble, the subservient, ِ ِ َ‫ه‬ ِ
َ َ ُ َ‫أ‬
‫د‬
ْ ْ
the fearful, the scared alkhashi`i alkha’ifi ‫ائ ِف‬ ِ َ ِ ِ َ ‫ال‬
‫خ‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ع‬ ‫اش‬ ‫خ‬
 ْ ْ ْ
the afraid, the miserable, almushfiqi alba’isi ‫ائ ِس‬ ِ َ ِ ِ ‫ال ُم‬
‫ب‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ش‬
ْ ْ
the modest, the insignificant, almaheni alhaqeri ‫ري‬
ِ ‫ني ال َح ِق‬ ِ ‫ال َم ِه‬
ْ ْ
the hungry, the poor, alja’i`i alfaqeri ‫ري‬ِ َ ِ َ ‫ال‬
‫ق‬
ِ ‫ف‬ ‫ال‬ ‫ع‬ ِ ‫ائ‬ ‫ج‬
the seeker of Your refuge and the
al`a’idhi almustajeri ‫ري‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ت‬ ‫س‬ ْ ‫الْعائذ الْم‬
seeker of Your protection, ِ ِ َ ُ ِ ِ َ
ْ ْ
the confessing of his sin, almuqirr bidhanbihi ،‫ال ُم ِق ِر ِب َذن ِب ِه‬
‫ه‬
the seeker of Your forgiveness from ْ ْ ْ
his sin,
almustaghfiri minhu ،ُ‫ال ُم ْستغ ِف ِر ِمنه‬
َ
ْ ْ
the humble to his Lord; almustakeni lirabbhi ،‫ني لِر هِب ِه‬ ‫ك‬
ِ ‫ال ُمس َت‬
َ ِ
and with the imploration of one
ْ
whom has been disappointed by du`a‘a man aslamathu thiqatuhu ‫ن أ َ ْس َلمته ُ ِث َقت ُ ُه‬ ْ ‫دعاء م‬
those whom he trusts, َ َ َ َُ
and the one whom is rejected by his
wa rafazathu ahibbatuhu
ْ
intimate ones, ،ُ‫ح ه َبتُه‬ ِ َ ‫ضته ُأ‬ َ َ‫َو َرف‬
and the one whose catastrophe has
wa `azumat faje`atuhu
ْ
been enormous; ،ُ‫وعظُمت فَ ِجيعتُه‬
َ َ َ َ
and with the imploration of one
du`a‘a hariqin hazenin ‫دعاء ح ِرق ح ِزين‬
burning and sad, َ َ َ َُ
and weak and mortified, za`efin mahenin ‫َض ِعيف م ِهني‬
َ
and depressed and wretched, ba’isin mustakenin ‫كني‬ ْ
ِ ‫ائس مُس َت‬ ِ ‫َب‬
and one who is resorting to Your
bika mustajerin .‫ك م ْست ِجري‬ ‫ب‬
shelter. َ ُ َ ِ
O Allah: I also beseech You for You allahumma wa as-aluka ْ ‫الله وأ‬
‫ك م ِليك‬ َ ‫ن‬
‫ه‬ َ ‫أ‬ ‫ب‬
ِ ‫ك‬ ُ ‫ل‬َ ‫أ‬‫س‬ َ َ َ‫ه ُ ه‬
are the King, bi’annaka malekun َ َ
and for that whatever You will shall wa annka ma tasha‘u min amrin
definitely take place, yakunu ،‫كون‬ ُ ‫ن أ َ ْمر ي‬
ْ ‫وأنك ما تشاء م‬
ِ ُ َ َ َ َ َ‫َ َ ه‬
ُ َ
and for that You have power over all wa annka `ala ma tasha‘u
.‫ك ع ََل ما ت َ َشاء َق ِدير‬ ‫وأن‬
things. qaderun ُ َ َ َ َ‫َ َ ه‬
ْ ْ ‫وأ َ ْسأَلك ب‬
‫الشه ِر‬ َ ‫هذا ه‬ َ ‫حر َم ِة‬ ُ ِ ُ
and I beseech You in the name of wa asaluk bihurmati hadha َ
this sacred month’s holiness, alshshahri alharami ْ
،‫الحر ِام‬
َ َ
and the Sacred House (Baytul ْ ْ ْ
wal-bayti alharami ،‫ت الحر ِام‬ ِ ‫َوال َبي‬
Haram),
َ َ
ْ ْ
and the Sacred Town, wal-baladi alharami ،‫َل الحر ِام‬ ِ َ ‫َوال َب‬
َ َ
and the Rukn (i.e. the corner of the
Holy Kaabah) and the Maqam (i.e. ْ ْ
wal-rrukni wal-maqami ،‫ام‬ ِ ‫ن وال َم َق‬ ‫ك‬ ‫والر‬
the standing-place of Prophet َ ِ ُ‫َ ه‬
Abraham)
ْ ْ
and the great rituals, wal-masha`iri al`izami ،‫ام‬ِ َ‫اَع ال ِعظ‬ ِ ِ ‫َوال َم َش‬
and in the name of Your Prophet, wa bihaqqi nabiyyka ِ ِ ‫ك مُ َح ه َمد َع َل ْي ِه و‬
‫آهل‬ َ ‫َو ِب َح ه ِق َن ِب ِ هي‬
Muhammad—peace be upon him muhammadin `alayhi wa alihi َ
and his Household. alssalamu .‫السالم‬

ya man wa haba li-adama ً
O He Who gave Shayth to Adam,
shaythan ،‫ن و َهب آلدم َش ْيثا‬ ْ ‫يا م‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ
and He Who gave Ismael and Ishaq wa li-ibrahema isma`ela wa ْ ‫إَساعيل و‬ ْ ْ ‫و‬
to Ibraham, ishaqa ،‫اق‬ َ َ ‫ح‬ ‫إس‬ َ ِ َ َ ‫ي‬ ‫اه‬ ِ ‫ر‬ ‫ألب‬
َ َ َ
and He Who returned Yusuf to wa ya man radda yusufa `ala ْ ْ ‫ويا م‬
Yaqoub, ya`quba ،‫ف ع ََل يع ُقوب‬ َ ‫ن ر ه َد يوس‬
َ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ
ْ ْ ْ ‫ويا م‬
‫ضر‬ ‫ء‬
ِ ‫ال‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ال‬ ‫د‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ف‬ ‫ش‬ َ ‫ك‬
َ ‫ن‬
and He Who relieved Job from his wa ya man kashafa ba`da albala‘i َ‫ُ ه‬ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ
harm after long hardships. zurra aiyyuba
،‫أ َ هيُ ْوب‬
َ
O He Who returned Musa to his
ya radda musa `ala ’ummhi ،‫اد موس ع ََل أ ُ ِهم ِه‬ ‫يا ر‬
mother, َ َ ُ َ‫َ َ ه‬
and He Who increased al-Khizr with ْ ْ ْ
wa za’ida alkhizri fe `ilmihi ،‫ائ َد ال ِخض ِر ِِف ِعل ِم ِه‬ ِ ‫َو َز‬
knowledge,
and He Who gave Solomon to wa ya man wa haba lidawuda
Dawood, sulaymana ،‫ن و َهب ِلاود س َل ْيمان‬ ْ ‫ويا م‬
َ َ ُ َ ُ َ َ َ َ َ َ
and He Who gave Yahya to
wa lizakariyya yahea
ْ
Zachariah, ،‫ك ِر ه َيا يحيى‬ َ ‫َولِ َز‬
َ َ
and He Who gave Isa to Mariam; wa limariyama `esa ،‫ولِم ْرمي ِعيسى‬
َ ََ َ َ
O He Who safeguarded the daughter ْ
ya hafiza binti shu`aybin ،‫شع ْيب‬ ‫ت‬ ِ ‫ظ ِبن‬ َ ِ‫حاف‬ ‫يا‬
of Shu`ayb; َُ َ َ
O He Who cared for the son of the wa ya kafila wa ladi a’umm musa
‫ل أ ُ ِ هم موس‬ ‫ويا كافل و‬
mother of Musa; wa ya kafila wa ladi ‘ummi musa َ ُ َِ َ َِ َ َ َ
I beseech You to send blessings upon as-aluka an tuSalliya `ala
Muhammad and the Household of muhammadin wa ali
ْ ْ
‫آل‬
ِ ‫ّل َع ََل مُ َح ه َمد َو‬ ‫أَسأَلُك أَن تُص ِ ه‬
Muhammad muhammadin َ َ
 ‫مح ه َمد‬
َ ُ
wa an taghfira le dhunuby ْ ْ
and to forgive my all sins, ،‫وِب كُله َ َها‬
kullaha ِ ُ ُ َ ‫َوأَن َت‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ذ‬ ‫ل‬ ِ ‫ر‬ ‫ف‬
ِ ‫غ‬
and to save me from Your ْ
wa tujerany min `adhabika ،‫ك‬
chastisement, َ ‫اب‬ ِ ‫ري ِِن ِمن َع َذ‬ َ ‫َوت ُ ِج‬
and to confer upon me with Your wa tujiba le rizwanaka wa ْ
‫ك‬ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ‫ب ِل ِر‬
‫ان‬ ‫م‬ َ ‫أ‬‫و‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ان‬ ‫و‬ ‫ض‬ ‫وتوج‬
pleasure and security, amanaka َ ِ ُ َ
ْ ْ
‫ك‬ َ َ َ ‫غ‬
‫ان‬ ‫ر‬ ‫ف‬ ُ ‫ك َو‬ َ ‫ان‬ َ ‫َوإح َس‬
and with Your favoring, forgiveness, wa ihsanaka wa ghufranaka wa
and gardens of Your Paradise, jinanaka
.‫ك‬ َ ‫ان‬ َ َ‫جن‬ ِ ‫َو‬
and I ask You to redeem me from all wa as-aluka an tafukk `anne kulla ْ ْ
circles of misfortune halqatin ‫ك ع ِهني كُ ه َل حل َقة‬ َ ‫ه‬ ‫وأ َ ْسأَلُك أَن َت ُف‬
َ َ َ
that are drawn around those who ْ ْ ْ ْ‫ب‬
bayny wa bayna man yu´dhene ،‫ن يؤ ِذينِي‬ ‫ني م‬ ‫ب‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬
ِ ‫ي‬
intend harm to me and me, ُ َ َ َ َ َ
ْ
and to unlock for me all doors, wa taftaha le kull babin ،‫و َتفتح ِل كُ ه َل باب‬
َ َ َ َ
and make easy for me all hardships, wa tulayyna le kulla Sa`bin
ْ
،‫ني ِل كُ ه َل صعب‬ َ ‫َوت ُ َل ِ ه‬
َ
and to alleviate for me all difficult
wa tusahhila le kulla `aserin ،‫وتُس هِه َل ِل كُ ه َل ع ِسري‬
matters, َ َ َ
and to mute all those who speak ill wa tukhrisa `anne kull natiqin ْ
،‫ّش‬ ‫وتخرس عني ك ه َل ناطق ب‬
of me, bisharrin ‫َ ُ ِ َ َ ِه ُ َ ِ ِ َ ه‬
and to defend me against all
wa takuffa `anne kulla baghin ،‫ف عنِهي كُ ه َل باغ‬ ‫وتك‬
oppressors, َ َ َ‫َ َ ُ ه‬
ْ
and suppress all my enemies and wa takbita `anne kulla `aduwwin
‫د هو ِل‬ ُ َ ُ ‫َو َت ِ َ َ ِه‬
‫ع‬ ‫ل‬ َ ‫ه‬ ‫ك‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ت‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ك‬
envious ones, le wa hasidin
،‫اسد‬ ِ ‫ح‬ ‫و‬
َ َ
and to protect me against all unjust
wa tamna`a minny kulla zalimin
ْ
ones, ،‫ظالِم‬ َ ‫َو َتمنَ َع ِم ِنهي كُ ه َل‬
ْ
and to rescue me from all
wa takfiyany kulla `a’iqin yahulu
‫ول‬
ُ ‫ح‬ ُ ‫ائق َي‬ ِ ‫َو َتك ِف َينِي كُ ه َل َع‬
impediments that lie between my
bayny wa bayna hajaty ْ ْ‫ب‬
needs and me, ‫ني حاج ِتي‬ ‫ب‬ ‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬
ِ ‫ي‬
َ َ َ َ َ َ
ْ ْ ‫ويحاول أ ْن يفرق ب‬
‫ني‬ ‫ب‬‫و‬ ‫ي‬ ‫ن‬
ِ ‫ي‬
and that try to take me away from wa yuhawilu an yufarriqa bayny َ َ َ َ َ ‫َ ُ َ ِ ُ َ ُ َ ِه‬
acts of obedience to You, wa bayna ta`atika
‫ك‬َ ‫اع ِت‬ ‫ط‬
َ َ
and that try to frustrate me from ْ ‫ويثبطني ع‬
wa yuthabbitany `an `ibadatika .‫ك‬ ‫ت‬
ِ ‫اد‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ع‬
ِ ‫ن‬
serving You. َ َ َ َ ِ َ ِ‫َ ُ َ ه‬
O He Who has bridled all mutinous ya man aljama aljinna ْ ْ ْ ْ
،‫ن ال ُمتم ِر ِدين‬ ‫يا من ألجم الج‬
jinn, almutamarridena َ ‫َ َ َ َ َ ِ هَ َ َ ه‬
and has overcome all tyrannical
wa qahara `utata alshshayateni ،‫ني‬
devils, ِ ‫الش َيا ِط‬ َ ‫اة ه‬ َ ‫ع َت‬ ُ ‫َو َق َه َر‬
and has mortified the necks of the wa adhalla riqaba ْ
،‫ْبين‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬ ‫وأذل رقاب ال‬
oppressors, almutajabbirena َ ِ ‫َ َ َ هَ ِ َ َ ُ َ َ ِ ه‬
ْ ْ
and has deterred all the ruling ‫ن‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ني‬ ‫ط‬
ِ ‫ل‬
‫ه‬ ِ ‫س‬ ‫ت‬ ‫م‬ ‫ورد كيد ال‬
authorities from harming the
wa radda kayda almutasallitena ِ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ َ‫َ َ ه‬
enfeebled ones:
`ani almustaz`afena ْ ْ ْ
،‫ني‬َ ِ َ ‫ال ُمس َت‬
‫ف‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ض‬
I beseech You in the name of Your as-aluka biqudratika `ala ma ْ
power over all things tasha‘u ،‫ك ع ََل ما ت َ َشاء‬ َ ‫ت‬ ِ ‫ر‬ ‫د‬ ‫أ َ ْسأَلُك ِب ُق‬
ُ َ َ َ
and in the name of Your alleviating wa tashelika lima tasha‘u kayfa ْ ‫وت ْسهيلك لما تشاء ك‬
whatever You will however You will tasha‘u ‫ف ت َ َشاء‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ُ َ َ َِ َ ِ ِ َ َ
ُ
ْ ْ
‫ضاء حاج ِتي ِفيما‬ ‫ق‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ج‬ ‫أن ت‬
that You may settle my requests as an taj`ala qaza‘a hajaty fema َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ
You will. tasha‘u
.‫ت َ َشاء‬
ُ
You may then prostrate yourself on the ground, turn your cheek on the ground, and say the
following:

O Allah: I am prostrating myself ْ

allahumma laka sajadtu ،‫ت‬
before You, ُ ‫ج‬ ‫د‬ ‫الله لك س‬
َ َ َ َ َ‫ه ُ ه‬
and I have full faith in You, wa bika amantu
ْ
،‫ت‬ ُ ‫آمن‬ ‫وبك‬
َ َ ِ َ
So, (please) have mercy upon my ْ ‫ار‬ ْ ‫ف‬
farham dhully wa faqaty ‫اق ِتي‬
humility and neediness, َ َ‫حم ذ ُ ِ هل َوف‬ َ َ
and upon my hardship and
wajtihady wa tazarru`y
ْ
meekness, ‫ضر ِعي‬ َ ‫واج ِّتا ِدي و َت‬
ُ‫ه‬ َ َ َ
and upon my paucity and my want wa maskanaty wa faqry ilayka ْ
ْ ‫وم ْسكنتي وفقري إل‬
to You, O my Lord. ya rabbi .‫ب‬
ِ‫ك َيا َر ه‬ ‫ي‬
َ َ ِ َ َ َِ َ َ َ

One should try to shed even a single drop of tear, for this is the signal of admission.
