Title of Lesson
How do we know that the material is solid? What are the characteristics of solid
materials?

Goals
To provide activities that help children learn about the qualities of solids.

Learning Objectives
1. Identifies the solid objects found at home and school.
2. Describe the properties of solid objects.

Introduction

What is Matter?

All things around us are matter. Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
Matter has three types: solid, liquid and gas.
Matter is made up of small particles called molecules and each molecule is made up
of atoms.

The status of molecules in solid, liquid and gas are different. This is shown by the
pictures below.

Exploring

 What is your favorite toy? Describe it according to its color, shape, size, weight
and texture?

 What is solid?

 What are the different properties of solids?

Sharing

He is Cupid, a student in the

third grade. He prepares the
things he needs before going
to school.

What are the things Cupido prepared before going to school?

What are their shapes, colors and textures?

Everything seen in the picture is called matter.

Let's find out the information about the physical properties of matter so that you can
know the details about the properties of solids, liquids and gases.

Your senses help you visualize and better understand these things.

Processing

In this lesson we will study the properties of solids.

Properties of Solids

Solid - the molecules are dense has a certain shape

has weight with volume

Other Properties of Solids

The solid has different colors

Solid objects can be described by their specific color.

A solid has a variety of specific shapes

The shape of the solid does not change.

The molecules of the solid are only slightly moving because they are close together
and dense so they have a specific or own shape.

What is solid?

What are the different properties of solids?

Generalizing
