In this article, we are in a situation where rstly, a patient is coming to our clinic after his mother
decided to change the orthodontist. So now you need to deal with someone that can change the
practitioner of her son if something is not working as she would like. Indeed, the previous dentist
planned to do full Ortho correction while he only required minor correction

At the end, after undergoing a panoramic examination, the treatment would be minor soft tissue
exposure to let erupt the right lower canine. So we need to send him to a periodontist because we do
not have the skills for this. A misunderstanding has occurred because the periodontist exposed the
soft tissue on the lower left canine. Later, the mom returns irritated that the periodontist did this on
the wrong tooth and she tries to nd out why. Now we are in a situation where you can either tell
the truth to the patient or protect the periodontist and yourself

However, there has been a real mistake and the mother has seen it clearly. Even though the situation
is delicate, you have to admit what happened.

Despite being professionals, we are humans so mistakes can happen to any one. Of course, it isn't
pleasant for anyone to make a mistake. It is even more dif cult when you have been practicing and
experimenting for years. However, you have to accept it. It is more dif cult to accept the less you
do, but we also have to put ourselves into our patients' care. The circumstances of whatever happens
need to be explained, and I believe that apologizing instead of lying to him would be better
received. It shows him that you’re not above anyone and you accept the fact that a mistake has been
made. Finally, the patient will gain a lot more con dence in you and your work
