Separation & Purification Design Engineer

Context of Need

John Cockerill has been acting as global OEM in the energy sector for several decades,
delivering heat recovery steam generators, industrial boilers and solar receivers for
concentrated solar power plant.

In order to support the acceleration of its developments in renewable energy solutions, John
Cockerill has grouped all these activities under a specific entity “John Cockerill Renewables”,
with its specific and dedicated organization. It has four activities: solar & thermal storage,
hydrogen, Integrated Renewables Solutions and EPC.

The hydrogen activities are organized under a subsidiary called “John Cockerill Hydrogen”.
This entity takes advantage of:

- Its current position as the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of electrolysers with
more than 25 years of experience

- Complete range of integrated solutions for hydrogen production and refuelling


stations

- Manufacturing capacities in Asia and Europe

- Integrated test laboratory for key components of electrolysers

To strengthen the development of its worldwide hydrogen activities, John Cockerill is looking
for a new Separation & Purification Design Engineer for the H2tech Team.
Main tasks

• Participate to development on separation and purification process for hydrogen


electrolyser, including:

o Define engineering guidelines.

o Develop calculation tools.

o Challenge current design by proposing alternatives and optimization.

o Analyse international norms and standards to check their applicability to our


product and to adapt our design if required.

o To learn about components from their manufacturers to improve their


selection and/or integration in the system.

o Consolidate knowhow on technical notes.

o Maintain and complete the library of template documents to be used for


project execution.

• Participate to project execution by applying the engineering guidelines and by using


available calculation tools and templates, including:

o Analyse client specifications.

o Select and size components of the system in collaboration with other teams.

o Participate to elaboration of P&ID and to HAZOP studies.

o Guide the drafting team to build the 3D model of separation system. Give
instructions to drafting team:

▪ to apply requirements defined in installation manual of components.

▪ to apply standards and good engineering practice

▪ to maintain sufficient access for safe inspection and maintenance of the


system

▪ to ensure that the layout of the system will be practical for lifetime of
the system (manufacturing, assembly, transport, installation, filling,
commissioning, continuous and transient operation, maintenance)

▪ to comply with project specific requirements

o Verify drawings issued by drafting team.

o Provide support to other disciplines, including support to project manager for


clarifications with client.
o Prepare technical documents for RFQ of components based on John Cockerill
requirements, applicable norms and client specifications.

o Analyse technical offers from subcontractors.

o Follow-up of detailed engineering by subcontractors.

o Participate to inspections at manufacturer workshop.

• Support Sales team regarding technical subjects

Profile

• Mechanical engineer, electro-mechanical engineer or chemical engineer

• Good critical appraisal

• Knowledge in industrial process

• Autonomous

• Team player

• Structured, rigorous, organised

• Knowledge in hydrogen is an asset

• Experience in power, oil & gas, chemical or heavy industry is an asset

• Languages:

o Technical English: Good level for writing and reading. Fluency is an asset.

o Fluency in French is an asset.
