Weathering Erosion Deposition

By: Punnami Sai Donthu

Physical Weathering
Shown over here is boulder that has been
cracked into two huge rocks. The process
that makes this happen is called physical
weathering. As water freezes and expands
the bolder’s crack gets bigger.

This is a haloclasty that has a honeycomb

pattern. It is caused by physical
weathering where salt crystals breaks
down the rock. In the process it ends up
making the rock into a honeycomb pattern.
Chemical Weathering
This landscape is called a karst. Because
of chemical weathering it dissolves large
amounts of rock or parts of the rock fall
off. That creates it into a certain shape
and color.

Another way that chemical weathering can

occur is when rock reacts with oxygen.
Oxygen reacts to iron so it can form iron
oxide in other words rust. Rust changes
the color of rock the same way these
rocks have changed color.
Erosion
This is a picture of the Vermillion Cliffs National
Monument, Arizona. The process that made it
occur is erosion. Over time natural forces such
as wind transport rocks to a new location. Later
creating cliffs like these.

This is a place in New Brunswick, Canada.

What made this place happen is because of
erosion. The rocks have been changing
shape over time because the water erodes
away the rocks making it into a new shape.
Deposition
Shown over here is a sand dune near Prestatyn,
North Wales. This sand dune was made by
deposition. Over time natural sources such as
wind carry dust with them and transport it to a
new place like this making a sand dune.

This is a beach at Chesil Beach. Beaches

occur because of deposition. Waves can
carry things such as pebbles and transport
them to a place creating a beach.
BONUS
This is a island next to the ocean. The process
that made this shape of the island is
deposition. Over time ocean waves carry away
rocks changing the shape of this island.

Over here is a boulder that is being broken

down. The process that this boulder is going
through is physical weathering. Over time seeds
can get into the cracks and grow and start
making the boulder break and become in a new
shape like the example.
