FOR THE DEAD

(9 days right after death)

MASN
PRAYERS IN THE HOLY ROSARY

THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES

1. The 1st sorrowful mystery is The Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
2. The 2nd sorrowful mystery is The Scourging at the Pillar
3. The 3rd sorrowful mystery is the Crowning of Jesus Christ with Thorns
4. The 4th sorrowful mystery is The Carrying of the Cross
5. The 5th sorrowful mystery is The Crucifixion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ

APOSTLES’ CREED
ALL: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from then He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

HAIL MARY
Hail, Mary! Full of grace, the Lord is with You;
Blessed are You among women, and blessed is the fruit of Your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

GLORY BE
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell,

And lead all souls to Heaven, especially those
Who most need Your mercy.

LEADER: Eternal rest grant unto the soul of (name) , O Lord.

ALL: And let perpetual light shine upon him / her.
LEADER: May he / she rest in peace.
ALL: Amen.

1
(After all the 5 mysteries)

SALVE REGINA
ALL: Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,
Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

LEADER: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

ALL: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LEADER: Let us pray.

ALL: O God, whose only begotten Son,
by His life, death, and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life.
Grant we beseech Thee, that while meditating on these mysteries
of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
We may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise,
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

LEADER: Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

ALL: Have mercy on us.

LEADER: Immaculate Heart of Mary.

ALL: Pray for us.

THE MEMORARE
ALL: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to Your protection,
implored Your help,
or sought Your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto You,

O Virgin of virgins, our Mother;
to You do we come, before You we stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions,
but in Your mercy hear and answer us.
Amen.

(Proceed to the daily novena.)

LEADER:
Lord our God, receive our supplications, prayers and mortifications, and sighs in suffrage for the holy
souls for whom we make this novena; and we pray that by the motherly love bestowed on you by your
most holy Mother, who followed you on the way of sorrow up to Mount Calvary, may you grant what we
ask of you in this novena for your greater honor and glory.
ALL: Amen.

LEADER: Let our response be:

 HAVE MERCY ON THE SOUL OF (name) .
LEADER: ALL:
Jesus, through your blood on the cross. 
Jesus, through the blow you received on your sacred face. 
Jesus, through the cruel scourging you endured. 
Jesus, through the crown of thorns that pierced your head. 
Jesus, through our carrying of the cross. 
Jesus, through your face covered with blood which you allowed to be imprinted on the veil of Veronica. 
Jesus, through your garments which were cruelly removed from your wounded body. 
Jesus, through your holy body nailed on the cross. 

SCRIPTURAL READING: (A member of the family will read this.)

READER:
A reading from the book of Wisdom, chapter 3, verses 1 – 9.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
READER:
The souls of the just are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;
and their passing away was thought an affliction
and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
But they are in peace.
For if before humans, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality.
Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed,
because God tried them and found them worthy of God’s self.
As gold in the furnace, God proved them,
and as sacrificial offerings God took them to self.
In the time of their visitation they will shine forth,
and will run like sparks through the stubble.
They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them forever.

3
Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace
and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.

The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.

SCRIPTURAL READING: (A member of the family will read this.)

READER:
A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans, chapter 6, verses 3 – 9.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
READER:
Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were
indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by
the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into the union with
him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old
self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be
in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we
believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death
no longer has power over him.

The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.

SCRIPTURAL READING: (A member of the family will read this.)

READER:
A reading from the second book of Maccabees, chapter 12, verses 43 – 46.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
READER:
Judas the ruler of Israel,
then took up a collection among all his soldiers,
amounting to two thousand silver drachmas,
which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory
sacrifice.

In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way,

inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view;
for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again,
it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in
death.

But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward

that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness,

12
it was a holy and pious thought.
Thus he made atonement for the dead
that they might be freed from this sin.

The Word of the Lord.

SCRIPTURAL READING: (A member of the family will read this.)

READER:
A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans, chapter 5, verses 5 – 11.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
READER:
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy
Spirit who was given to us.

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a
righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God
demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more
then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we
were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been
reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord
Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

The Word of the Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in
me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.”

Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?”

READER:
A reading from the 2nd book of the Corinthians, chapter 5, verses 1 and 6 – 10.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
READER:
For we know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God,
a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in Heaven.

So we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away
from the Lord,
for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord.
Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.

“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,

Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.

whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

SONGS
AMAZING GRACE
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,

I have already come
‘Twas grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first began.

COME HOLY SPIRIT (I NEED YOU)

Come Holy Spirit I need You
Come Holy Spirit I pray
Come with Your strength and Your power
Come in Your own special way.

Come like a spring in the desert

Come, to the weary of soul
Lord, let Your sweet healing power
Touch me and make me whole.

Come Holy Spirit I need You

Come Holy Spirit I Pray
Come With Your light and Your guidance
Come in Your own special way.

YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.

30
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown,

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

YOU ARE MY HIDING PLACE

You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid
I will trust in You
I will trust in You
Let the weak say
I am strong
In the strength of the Lord.
I will trust in You

YOU ARE NEAR

 Yahweh, I know You are near
Standing always at my side
You guard me from the foe
And You lead me in ways everlasting

Lord, You have searched my heart

And You know when I sit and when I stand
Your hand is upon me protecting me from death
Keeping me from harm 

Where can I run from Your love?

If I climb to the heavens You are there
If I fly to the sunrise or sail beyond the sea
Still I'd find You there 

You know my heart and its ways

You who formed me before I was born
In secret of darkness, before I saw the sun
In my mother’s womb 

Marvelous to me are Your works

How profound are Your thoughts, my Lord
Even if I could count them, they number as the stars

31
You would still be there 

(40 days)

SILAYAN
Silayan at bigyan ng pag-asa;
Pagmamahal, pusong nagdurusa.
Iwasan ang pag-aalinlangan,
Lahat ng araw kita'y mamahalin.

Sa labi ng imbing kamatayan,

Itangi yaring pagmamahal.
Tulutan magtapat sa 'yo Hirang,
Lahat ng araw kita'y mamahalin.

ROCK OF AGES
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save me from its guilt and power.

Not the labor of my hands

Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All could never sin erase,
Thou must save, and save by grace.

Nothing in my hands I bring,

Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace:
Foul, I to the fountain fly,
Wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,

When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

HINDI KITA MALILIMUTAN
Hindi kita malilimutan
Hindi kita pababayaan
Nakaukit magpakailanman
Sa ‘king palad ang ‘yong pangalan

Malilimutan ba ng ina
Ang anak na galing sa kanya
Sanggol sa kanyang sinapupunan
Paano niyang matatalikdan
Ngunit kahit na malimutan
Ng ina ang anak niyang tangan

Hindi kita malilimutan

Kailanma’y di pababayaan
Hindi kita malilimutan
Kailanma’y di pababayaan

OLD RUGGED CROSS

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff’ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

 So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,

Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,

A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true

Its shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He’ll call me someday to my home far away
Where his glory forever I’ll share.

MAHIWAGA

33
Mahiwaga ang buhay ng tao
Ang bukas ay di natin piho
At manalig lagi sana tayo
Ang Diyos ang pag-asa ng mundo

Pag-ibig sa ating kapwa tao

At laging magmahalan tayo
Yan ang lunas at ligaya at pag-asa ng bawat kaluluwa
Yan ang hiwaga ng buhay ng tao

BEYOND THE SUNSET

Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning
When with our Saviour heaven's begun
Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done.

Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather

No storms will threaten, no fears annoy
O day of gladness, O day unending
Beyond the sunset eternal joy.

Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me

To God the Father whom I adore
His glorious presence, His words of welcome
Will be my portion on that fair shore.

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion

With our dear loved ones who've gone before
In that fair homeland we'll know no parting
Beyond the sunset forever more.

SINO AKO?
Hiram sa Diyos ang aking buhay
Ikaw at ako’y tanging handog lamang
Di ko ni nais na ako’y isilang
Ngunit salamat dahil may buhay

Ligaya ko na ako’y isilang

pagkat tao ay mayroong dangal
Sinong may pag ibig, sinong nagmamahal
Kung di ang taong Diyos ang pinagmulan

Kung di ako umibig kung di ko man bigyang halaga

Ang buhay kong handog, ang buhay kong hiram sa Diyos
Kung di ako nagmamahal, sino ako?

34
HE WILL CARRY YOU
There is no problem too big, God cannot solve it.
There is no mountain too tall, he cannot move it.
There is no storm too dark, God cannot calm it.
There is no sorrow too deep, He cannot soothe it.

If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders,

I know, my brother, that he will carry you.
If He carried the weight of the world upon his shoulders,
I know, my sister, that He will carry you.

He said, “Come unto me, all who are weary, so weary and I will give you rest”.

NEARER MY GOD, TO THEE

Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee.

Deep in Thy Sacred Heart, let me abide

Thou that hast bled for me, sorrowed, and died
Sweet shall my weeping be, grief surely leading me
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee.

Friends may depart from me, night may come down

Clouds of adversity, darken and frown
Still through my tears I’ll see hope gently leading me
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee.

IN HIS TIME
In His time, in His time,
He makes all things beautiful in His time.
Lord, please show me everyday
As You’re teaching me Your way,
That you do just what You say in Your time.

In Your time, in Your time,

You make all things beautiful in Your time.
Lord, my life to You I bring,
Make each song I have to sing,
Be to you a lovely thing

35
In Your time.

MAY BUKAS PA
Huwag damdamin ang kasawian
May bukas pa sa iyong buhay
Sisikat din ang iyong araw
Ang landas mo ay mag-iilaw

Sa daigdig ang buhay ay ganyan

Mayroong ligaya at lumbay
Maghintay at may nakalaang bukas

May bukas pa sa iyong buhay

Tutulungan ka ng Diyos na may lalang
Ang iyong pagdaramdam
Idalangin mo sa Maykapal
Na sa puso mo ay mawala nang lubusan

JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea
Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

I am weak but Thou art strong

Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll be satisfied as long as I walk
Dear Lord, close to Thee

Through this world of toil and snares

If I falter Lord, who care
Who, with me, my burdens share
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee

When my feeble life is o'er

Time for me will be no more
Guide me gently, safely o'er
When I cross to Jordan’s shore
I will walk, dear Lord, close to Thee

GAANO KITA KAMAHAL

Ikaw lamang ang aking iibigin, magpakailanman…

Ang pag-ibig ko sa 'yo ay tunay

36
Nais ko sanang patunayan
Huwag ka nang mag-alinlangan

Ang pag-ibig ko'y hindi kukupas

Tulad din ng umaga
May pag-asang sumisikat

Ang ating buhay

Maikli aking hirang
Kung kaya't kailangan
Ng pagsuyong wagas kailanman
