SECTION 096900 ACCESS FLOORING (RAISED FLOOR) (RF)

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

This Access Flooring specification is for a proprietary-type computer raised floor

system that is to be supplied and installed to all raised floor locations to operational
control/command rooms as indicated in the drawings and reference to the Bills of
Quantities and the contract documents in general.

1.2 STANDARDS

The raised floor panels, exclusive of their covering, are to have a Class A flame
spread when tested in accordance with ASTM E84-80 and NFPA number 255, and
are to be fabricated completely of non-combustible materials, or equivalent proposed
by the Contractor subject to approval.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1. The Contractor is to provide all submittals including material samples and the
system and installation shop drawings of the computer raised floor system as
shown in the contract drawings and/or specified herein. Samples of the high-
pressure laminate tiles to be submitted for approval prior to actual installation.

2. The Contractor is to submit manufacturer's certificate of performance with

supporting laboratory test data for approval to comply with the following tests:
 Concentrated load test
 Uniform load test
 Rolling load test
 Ultimate load test
 Impact load test
 Axial load test and overturning moment test for understructure.

3. As-built drawings to provide accurate record of actual completed construction

1.4 PERFORMANCE

1. The raised floor panels are to be rigid structural assemblies fabricated to size
required with a squareness tolerance of plus and minus 1.5mm and with a
flatness tolerance of plus and minus 2mm measured on a diagonal across the
top of the panel. All panels are to be free from manufacturing imperfactions.

2. The raised floor panels are to be protected from corrosion by the specialist
manufacturer's standard factory applied coatings.

3. Panel Loading Performance Criteria

 Measurement of all deflection and permanent sets to be taken on
top surface of panel;
 Measurements to be taken at centre, at mid span of edge and a
thinnest section of quarter quadrant

TS/A/SECTION 096900/1
DIVISION 09: FINISHES
SECTION 096900 ACCESS FLOORING

 Measurements to be taken without floor covering in place.

a) Concentrated Load Performance

Panels are to be capable of supporting a concentrated load of 6KN on

645mm2 with a maximum deflection of 2mm measured anywhere on
the panel surface. Permanent set under this design load not to exceed
25mm and this set not to increase when design load is continuously
applied over a 24-hour period. Ultimate strength of the floor panel is to
provide a safety factor of three times its design without failure. Failure
is defined as a point at which the panel will no longer accept the load.

b) Uniform Load Performance

Panels are to be capable of supporting a uniform load of 30 KN/m2

with a maximum deflection of 1 mm. Permanent set under this design
load is not to exceed 25mm and this set is not to increase when
deisgn load is continuously applied over a 24-hour period.

c) Rolling Load Performance

Permanent panel surface deformation is not to exceed 5mm and a

combination of local and overall surface deformation of local and
overall surface deformation not to exceed 1mm under the following:
 IBM Caster - 75mm x 25mm wide hard plastic at 5.5 KN on the
caster for 10 passes over the same path
 Paper Cart Wheel - 150mm x 50mm wide hard plastic at 4.4 KN on
the wheel for 2000 passes over the same path
 Automatic Mail Cart - 200mm x 75mm wide neoprene at 2.25 KN
on the drive wheel for 500,000 passes over the same path

d) Accidental Impact Load Performance

Panels to be capable to withstand an impact load anywhere on the

panel to 0.67 KN dropped from a height of 300mm onto a 645 mm2
area. Local indentation is not to exceed 1.5mm.

4. Pedestal assembly is to be capable of supporting 22.25 KN axial load without

permanent deformation. For finished floor height of 150mm and above,
vertical adjustments to be accomplished over a range of not less than 50mm
without requiring the rotation of the pedestal head. Contractor to provide
means of leveling and locking the assembly at a selected height, requiring
deliberate action to change height setting, to prevent vibrating displacement.

5. Structural integrity of system not to be adversely affected by humidity or water

6. Surface of panels to be finished with floor covering material with anti-static

characteristics. System to have maximum electrical resistance of 10 ohms
measured from top of the panels, less surface covering, to pedestal base. It is
to be resistant to alkali, grease, oil and to be able to withstand static loads of
about 345 KN/M2.

DIVISION 09: FINISHES
SECTION 096900 ACCESS FLOORING

7. All exposed surfaces of the panels under the floor, and the understructure,
are to be of treated steel to prevent corrosion and flaking. Completely painted
surfaces are not acceptable.

2.0 PRODUCTS

1 System Description

The computer raised floor system is to be of rigid panel construction of 600 x

600 modular dimension on plan elevated to provide a clear cavity of 300 mm
clear space below the raised floor or the heights as indicated in the drawings.
The whole system is to consist of easily removable and interchangeable load
bearing panels supported on steel adjustable pedestals. The total depth of the
panel and the pedestal head with stringer is not to exceed 40mm.

2 Acceptable Manufacturer

The Computer raised floor system is to be from an approved manufacturer

that can demonstrate having satisfactorily completed projects of like scope.

3 Panel Material

a) Panels are to be 600 x 600mm and interchangeable with other like

panels except where cut for special conditions. The panels are to be
easily removed and replaced without disturbing adjacent panels by
one person using a portable lifting device.

b) Panels may contain cementitious or other non-combustible fill material

for the purpose of structural, acoustical and thermal insulation
performance. When panels contain such fill material, cut edges must
be sealed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation.

c) The panels are to have 4 corrosive resistant corner-lock holes for

locking them to the understructure and 4 vinyl caps to conceal the
screw holes. Panels are to be removable by releasing the 4 fasteners.

4. Understructure system

This is to consist of all metal pedestal bases and head assemblies fabricated
with manufacturer's standard corrosive resistant finish. All components to be
factory assembled. The Contractor is to provide rigid assemblies at every
corner of each floor panel using grid system.

a) Pedestal bases to be fabricated of a square or circular base of 6.4mm

thickness with not less than 100 cm2 of bearing area and assembled
to a tube with locking not welded to the tube that is designed to
engage the pedestal head assembly. Pedestal bases to be secured to
subfloor with at least two numbers of 9mm diameter anchor bolts per
base in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

b) Pedestal heads to be fabricated of a headplate with a corresponding

stud that is designed to engage the pedestal base assembly. The
head is to be of proper type to positively locate the floor panel and to
receive a bolted stringer system.

TS/A/SECTION 096900/4
DIVISION 09: FINISHES
SECTION 096900 ACCESS FLOORING
