The Internship was for a duration of 4 weeks from 17 of July 2022 to 16th of August 2022.

Roles and Responsibilities

An introductory session before the internship was held in which I introduced myself and get acquainted
with him. In the introductory session itself I was told to act like a Professional and always take stand for
our client. I still remember he told us that during this internship, our first priority should be our profession.
He informed me that because I am in first year and didn't know much about law, I shouldn't be frightened
of speaking incorrectly; he simply wanted me to talk and express my ideas. He frequently provided me
advice on how to properly express ourselves, which was really beneficial. I've seen a significant increase
in my speaking abilities.

Main tasks
I was provided with the tasks to go through the various cases which were covered during this internship
(the names of the cases have been mentioned further). My primary task was to attend each and every
meeting to grasp the knowledge and practical skills provided by sir.

Sir gave me a Criminal Law Book ' Ratanlal and Dhirajlal’s the Indian Penal Code ' and gave me task to
learn basics of criminal law from that book. Sir also gave me a tip that most cases are decided to their
merits on basis of procedure so he emphasized me to focus on procedures in future.

Sir assigned me task to learn and write about all types of Bench that function in Patna High court and
make a write-up of three to four lines about each type of Bench.

During my internship I get accustomed to a very famous case of Bihar and a long pending matter related
to Bihar Prohibition of Liquor and Excise Act 2016 in which there is a clause that if Liquor is found in
someone’s premises all members of that house or property will be charged in oppose of this a PIL was
filed in Patna High court which was later on transferred to Lokayukt bench.

After Going through the Memorial of the abovementioned case, I was provided with a link to hear the live
court proceedings virtually of the case and gain a lot of practical experience on the abovementioned case.

Another task which was provided to learn the basics of the drafting from the point of a layman terms. The
explanation which was given by the sir was very fruitful and we were also assigned to go through the
various samples of drafts. I was also assigned the task to go through the Various FIR and previous
drafting.

Personal and Learning Experience :

While working as an intern under Shri Dinesh Singh, I attended a good number of court proceedings. I
was required to attend court proceedings in which sir acted as a Judge (being a Lokayukt) One of the
case I clearly remember was a high-profile Divorce matter. Sir acted as a guardian and mentored both
husband and wife and gave them time to explore their Conjugal relationship.

Another Case was of State Highway Scam case in which a committee was formed by Hon’ble Patna High
Court which was headed by Shri Dinesh Singh in this case sir provided me entire documents, testimonials
and file to go through the same.

While attending court proceedings I made observations and learned a lot of things. The Subordinates
helped me to learn courtroom etiquettes which included bowing before the bench, dress code, addressing
to the bench, how to make arguments, etc.

I gained a lot of confidence after the internship. I believe that my research skills were improved while
working as an intern when I was asked to prepare case briefs. I can now do research work more
accurately and in less time as now I am more aware of sources. I am more comfortable in utilizing legal
sources for research. The client counselling I attended helped me improve my interacting skills and
helped me in learning how to deal with legal situations.

Internship takeaway:
My four week Internship under Shri Dinesh Singh was very fruitful. I learned a lot of skills required to be a
successful lawyer. Being a first year learner, I was very under confident but after this internship I am
confident in interacting with people. My research skill has improved. By attending court room proceedings,
I have learned how to make arguments and interpret and application of legal statue and case precedents
better which will further help me in Law School and in future as a lawyer. The internship experience
encouraged me to consider litigation. Though, I look forward to intern more under Professionals and
learn more in upcoming internships. Working among lawyers and Judges gave me a lot of exposure of
the field of Law. He personally interacted which each intern and talking with him helped me gain a lot of
knowledge. This was a fruitful experience for me which apart from being productive was fun as well.

This internship helped me in developing my legal ability to take quick decisions, how to look at a particular
thing as a legal professional. To excel in this field, I believe that your basics have to be clear and this
internship aid me in developing not only basic but a clear understanding regarding various aspects like
FIR, petition, legal notice, drafting, etc. As a legal professional, our internship also focused on our
personal growth. I learned about legal etiquette. I was also endowed with the knowledge that how the
media is influencing our legal mind and how should we avoid it. Overall, it was a rewarding experience. I
would encourage everyone to intern here at least once. Even the smallest aspects were taught and
discussed in depth by sir, which enabled me to understand the fundamentals. After each work
submission, I received comments, which allowed me to better in every work that I had previously
completed or was learning at the time. The work environment was really pleasant, and everyone worked
together to ensure that the job was completed. Sir used to talk about his personal experiences with a
variety of difficulties that young attorneys confront. They were really informative, and we gained a lot of
knowledge from him. I consider myself fortunate for getting the opportunity to intern under Sir. Apart from
being an excellent Judge with immense knowledge and experience, Sir has been the greatest mentor I’ve
ever had. Each session I attended was interesting and valuable. Apart from gaining legal knowledge I
also learned how to have the right approach in life and how to face difficult situations. Sir has encouraged
me and others like me to give our best and be our best! I cannot thank him enough. I really look forward
to working with him again.
