TOP 10 COUNTRIES IN THE GLOBALIZATION INDEX 2021

Source: Statista Research Department (2022)

The overall index of globalization seeks to assess current economic flows, economic
restrictions, data on information flows, personal contact data, and cultural proximity through the
conduct of surveys across the globe. It is a process that erodes national boundaries and integrates
national economies, cultures, technologies, and governance to produce complex and mutual
relationships and interdependence from the economic, social, and political aspects of society.

Despite reaching the top, Singapore led the countries in economic globalization with a
score of 94.28, leaving the Netherlands in second place with an index value of 90.12. According
to Statista Research Development (2021), countries that are considered economically globalized
have trade safety regulations, low import tariffs, and more free-trade agreements—regulations
that allow foreign investment.

In terms of social globalization, Luxembourg, with an index value of 90.97, was the
leading country in the Globalization Index 2021, followed by Switzerland, with an index value of
90.55.

Whilst the remaining countries that were not seen in the economic and social indicators
were seen in the political globalization as United Kingdom ranked 4th, Belgium placed 6th, and
Sweden was seen on the 8th.
Analysts look at the social and political effects of globalization because economic
globalization does not capture the full picture and effects of globalization on countries.
