ACTIVITY: Integumentary System

1. Illustrate the basic structure of the skin and label accordingly.

2., Dissect And observe the pig's skin and find similarities and differences between that and
humans

Pigskin doesn't present eccrine glands and apocrine glands are distributed through the skin
surface. Pig skin is like human skin in terms of color, hair follicles, sweat glands, and
subcutaneous fat

3. Do activity 2 p.56 Ana Lab Book-visualizing changes in skin color due to continuous
external pressure.

The color of compressed skin will be pale. The reason for the color change is obstruction of the
capillary flow to the area. If pressure is maintained long enough, the skin under pressure will
display a bluish color. This condition, which is called cyanosis, is due to the presence of
deoxygenated blood because blood flow has been blocked.

4. Do activity 6 p.59 Ana Lab Book-demonstrating adaptation of touch receptors.

The pressure sensation returns when coins are added to the stack. The same receptors are
probably being used. Generator potentials are graded, and stronger stimuli produce larger
potentials and thus increased frequency of nerve impulses.
