Discussion

Information is undeniably everywhere. The manner, though, of


getting and utilizing it varies depending on its importance and
the capability of the user. An individual can be his own or other’s
source of information. However, many make use of information
provided by somebody else.
In writing, carefully validated sources of information can add
power and credibility to your piece of written work.

Criteria for Assessing Information Source

Timeliness- Your resources need to be in time or recent enough
for your topic especially when you are dealing with medical or
health breakthroughs.

Authority – The information must from authors who have


authority to speak about the topic with sufficient documentation
and with reliable publication and references. They must be well
supported by reviews.

Audience – You should know the intention of the writer.


Information must also address a specific intended readers or
individuals who will benefit it.

Relevance – Ask yourself if the content has connection to your


topic. It should help develop and support your topic.

Perspective – Sources must maintain integrity. Biases must be


avoided. You should have a clear view of other’s side not one-
sided.

Situation: Charity, Grace, and Hope are all Grade 7 students
from different localities in the Philippines. Charity is from
Mandaluyong City where electricity and internet connection are
part of the peoples’ daily existence. Grace is from Aborlan,
Palawan. In this place, electricity is not common to every
household and internet connection is only available in selected
locations. Hope on the other hand is from Inyawan, a remote
sitio in Libertad, Antique. Here, electricity and internet is never
available.
Help them decide the five sources of information they can best
use for their essay.
