Seminar 2 Class Debate:

Everyone should be treated as a talent:

- However resources can be allocated differently.

- Because all employees generate $ for the firm.
- Being fair – given the same development and treatment
- Enabling people to develop.

However if you classify everyone as a talent, then there is no meaning to the word talent. Everyone
should be treated as talent but not everyone should be placed on talent management program.

Not wise to allocate resources equally among everyone. Spark a lot of unhappiness among the firms.
Employee will want to not do as much work and throw more to the talent.

Only those who can generate more profit for the firm should go on the management program.
However will end up in a tunnel vision. What happen when those talent end up by CMI?

You will need to identify new talent?

Support :

- Sense of responsibility, to be called employer, must have a duty of care. We are legislating
employment because some may get unfairly treated. If every employee can grow because
you invest in them, everyone grow and the company can earn more $$. If you see company
as body and department as organ, employee is the cell. If cell can multiply and grow,
company can grow too. (looking from the Macro level).

Oppose:

- Limited resources. Resources are finite. Even if we can do it, however do we benefit from it?
- Not all employees want to grow. Depending on their own aspiration and alignment with the
company.

If you are a MNC, you cannot afford to lose people. Can have 2 programs:

1. Learning & Development program for everyone

2. Talent Management program

Civil Service  given 3 days to reject promotion. Must give employee the opportunity to express
their own stress/aspiration. Not everyone wants to be promoted.
