1er Escadron de Spahis Sahariens Created 1895

Created on 6 June 1895 by the Law of 5th December 1894 the squa-
dron had an effective strength of 2 platoons, furnished by the
cavalry regiments of Algeria and natives of the Saharan oasis.
The 3e platoon was created in 1896. The squadron was mounted on
camels.
