WINNIE LORRAINE UMALI-PASCUAL, MD

MMHOA

There are several lessons that I have learned for the week. One of which am beginning to
appreciate human resource management as a whole and its value in hospital management. I also agree
with Prof Auste when he said you need a learning partner. In this course have several learning partners.I
am also very grateful to my learning partners for keeping me in track. They are not only my mentors but
also became my friends. They are Dr. Michael Montesa, Dr. Rojannah Sahagun, Dr. Rebecca Gabor and
Dr. Julie Abitria-Maureal. They are the ones that help me understand the topics, lessons and keeping
track if I have submitted my requirements.

I was also amazed that Prof Auste id also and Introvert like me. I like his principles of being
extrovert at work then maintaining introvert at home. I am an introvert but my work as a doctor needs
me to be an extrovert because how can I explain the disease of a person if I can’t verbalize it to them. So
I will take the advice of Prof Auste to be extrovert at work and back in being an introvert when not at
work. Listed below are the other learnings from last week sessions.

1. Felipe Landa Jocano

 Born:  (February 5, 1930 – October 27, 2013)

Reflection: I also believed in Mr. Landa Jocano’s theory of Participant observation. I think
before one can comment in others action one must experienced the things that the person
does. Just like in leadership you should not just ask someone to do the tasks for you, you
should also participate so that the task will be finished and you will finish the work
excellently than just waiting for them to finish.

2. Mental Models

 According to Peter Senge Mental models are frameworks consisting of our underlying
assumptions which helps us organize information.

 According to Prof Auste the practical definition of mental models is capturing the reality
thru images. It is based on the corporate practice he had

 In corporate world: the impression if one that cannot do a mental model is that person
has no cognitive functions.

Reflection: I now appreciate doing and understanding the mental models. It made me
understand and remember the lessons quickly. Just like before when I am studying in Medical
school I do mnemonics to easily remember the concepts and memorize it. Now in this Masteral
course I appreciate the concepts more especially now that Prof Auste requires us to create a
mental model of each concepts. But at first I was amazed and overwhelmed about this mental
models because I thought it was hard but now I love and appreciate doing mental models.

3. I also learned that the next stage of human resource management will be Human resource
Development and transformation. I have searched about the concept of this stage. The next stage one
must be a tech-savvy and should be flexible enough to deal with the increasingly agile and restless
workforce. The leader’s must also have a big picture from the company and employee’s perspective. I
have some researched some ways on how the human resource can get there:

1. Embrace Technology & Analytics.

2. Understand Employees’ Life Stage.
3. Change Your Mindset.
4. Shift From Being Reactive to Proactive.
5. Spend Time on Your Employer Brand Message.
Reflection: This is also related to the teachings of Learn-Unlearn-Relearn Concept that everyone
must adapt to change. Just like in our practice in Medicine wherein new technologies in the medical
world is present. I also believed that the only permanent in this world is change.

4. Prof. Auste introduced that in order for us to adjust to the New normal or Big reset we should have
the qualities of STAR, SPEED, TRANSPARENCY, AGILITY, RESILIENCE. I agree with prof that we should
have these qualities because that the changing times of technologies we should have these qualities.

5. The other principles and other concepts that prof Auste taught us last Sunday is the work ethics he is
following. His ethics is you should know your own profile, you should have self-imposed rules, you
should keep your integrity intact. I admire prof. Auste for having this principles. I might adapt some of
his principles and I thank him for letting me know my own profile thru by taking the Myers-briggs exam.
Because know I learned more about myself and understand my strengths and weaknesses.

6. aLVIN tOFFLER THIRD WAVE

Techno-
Informati
on Wave

Mind

Industrial Wave - Machines

Agricultural Wave - Muscle

I haven’t read the Alvin Toffler book but thru this mental model that Prof Auste has gave us I have
appreciated the book more. I also agree with this concept that this what we are experiencing right now.
We have experienced each and every wave of it. It is right that we are experiencing the terchno-
Information wave right now and we must adapt to technology in order to survive the world now.

7. My last learning of the week is the 7 fold of Spirits about the revelation. I appreciate more about the
book of revelation regarding the 7 fold spirit. I appreciate it more thru the mental model of Prof Auste.

The seven descriptors of the Spirit are found, in that the Spirit is

1. Of the Lord
2. Of wisdom
3. . . . and understanding
4. Of counsel
5. . . . and might
6. Of knowledge
7. . . . and the fear of the Lord.

things, the first to rise from the dead, and the commander of all the rulers of the world.
All praise to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for
us.
