NS Part 4
NS Part 4
ACTIVITY 5
NERVOUS SYSTEM
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activity, the student must be able to:
1. Identify the different functions of the Nervous System,
2. Identify the different divisions of the Nervous System,
3. Identify the different cells of the Nervous system,
4. Label the different parts of a neuron,
5. Identify the different meninges and ventricles,
6. Identify correct sequence of the formation, circulation and reabsorption of CSF,
7. Identify the correct sequence of the physiology of nerve impulse conduction and
neural pathways and
8. Identify and label the different structures and functions of PNS, CNS and ANS.
INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW
The Nervous System is equated to a computer the choreographs most if not all the
events happening in the body. The nervous system is the communications network that
goes into nearly every part of the body, enervating your muscles, pricking your pain
sensors, and letting you reach beyond yourself into the larger world. More than 80 major
nerves make up this intricate network, and each nerve contains somewhere around 1
million neurons (individual nerve cells). It’s through this complex network that you
respond both to external and internal stimuli, demonstrating a characteristic called
irritability (the capacity to respond to stimuli, not the tendency to yell at annoying
people).
The activity is divided into four (4) parts:
Part 1. Functions and Divisions of the Nervous System
Part 2. Cells of the Nervous System and Organization of Tissues
Part 3. Physiology of Nerve Impulse Conduction, Blood Supply to the brain and
CSF formation, circulation and reabsorption
Part 4. Structures of the Nervous System and their Important Functions
Your knowledge on the lectures discussed will be vital for the different activities.
Good luck!
