Methods and Procedures

This chapter exhibits the following parts: research design, sources of data, and data analysis.

Research Design

The study will use phenomenology. The purpose of phenomenology is to describe the

lived experience of individuals. Phenomenology is a research method that will help a

researcher to describe the essence of a phenomenon by exploring it from the perspective of those

who have experienced it (Neubauer, B.E., Witkop, C.T. & Varpio, L., 2019). Moreover,

phenomenology focuses on the commonality of a lived experience within a particular group

(Chambers, 2013). Phenomenology method suits this study because its goal is to describe the

experiences of the respondents and to recognize their views.

Furthermore, the study will use qualitative research approach. Qualitative research is

primarily exploratory research. Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-

numerical data (e.g., text, video, or audio) to understand concepts, opinions, or experiences. It

can be used to gather in-depth insights into a problem or generate new ideas for research

(Bhandari, 2020). Moreover, qualitative research focuses on why and how things happen and that

do not use numerical data as their primary facts (YourDictionary).  Qualitative research is the

best approach to be used in this study since the sector of education and other related people need

to understand the perspective of students toward modular distance learning.

Locale and Population of the Study

The Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology consists the population

of the study who are 11th grader modular students, enrolled year 2021-2022. The Grade 11

modular students from Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology is to be

chosen because the researchers studied at the said school for the same reason, choosing the said

year. The researchers intended to find out what are the perspectives of the students about

modular distance learning together with their struggles. Purposive sampling is to be used in the

study. Purposive sampling, also known as judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling, is a

form of non-probability sampling in which researchers rely on their own judgment when

choosing members of the population to participate in their surveys (Alchemer, 2021). This type

of sampling can be very useful in situations when the researchers needed an in-depth and

detailed information regarding the study.

Instrumentation and Data Collection

To collect and compile the appropriate information from the students, the researchers will

ask the registrar office of Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology to have

the list of enrolled grade 11 modular students and the researchers selected randomly.

To obtain the specific data regarding the perception of the students toward modular

distance learning and their struggles, the researchers will use of the survey questionnaire. The

researchers will prepare survey questions in order to acquire information and answers from the

students.
The researchers will conduct the survey with the use of polls for the response to be more

understandable. The researchers will nit require the filling up of the names so that the

respondents would not hesitate to answer correctly and honestly . The researchers will collect the

answers of the respondents for their analyzation.

The questions to be answered by the respondents is to be checked by their research

teacher. The validator is a senior highschool and college instructor.

The information that will be gathered will be discussed and documented in order to draw

further conclusions and perform further analysis. Thematic analysis will be utilized to reveal the

themes by analyzing the commonalities of the responses.
