CLASS READING PROGRAM
S.Y. 2021 – 2022
I. Rationale
Based on the result of the diagnostic test on word recognition and comprehension of
learners, majority of the learners manifested difficulty not much in word recognition but
more in comprehension. They can read but don’t find meaning in what they are reading.
In order to help the teacher stimulate their learners’ interest in reading the teacher must
be equipped with knowledge on the significance of reading in life of every learner with
Pupils must be aided not only to sound out words but to understand them. They must
be provided with varied developmental reading activities to find the significance of reading

A. Administrative Staff
1. District Supervisor:
a. Supports and assist the school administrator in implementing the reading
program and assist the teacher with the instructions.
2. Principal/School Head
a. Sits together with the staff to plan reading program, assist the teacher with the
instructions and monitor the implementation.
3. Reading Coordinator
a. Assists in the reading instruction and help plan for the program.
B. Regular Staff
1. Reading Teacher
- Diagnose learner’s reading skills suited in their level and
- Provides instruction at appropriate level of difficulty.
III. Objectives
This program is intended for the pupils to start building sight vocabulary and to
enhance the teaching competence of teachers to develop the phonetic and comprehension
skills of learners for effectiveness reading.
V. Implementation

A. Consultation with reading teachers
B. Preparation
1. Organizing reading lesson in English and in Filipino
2. Preparing instructional/visual devices
3. Scheduling:
a.) Seminar – Workshop on Remedial Reading for Teachers of Grade I – VI.
b.) Oral Reading test (Grade I – VI)
C. Implementation
1. Launching of the Remedial Reading Program during PTCA meeting.
2. Administering Oral Reading Test/Inventory
3. Conducting Seminar – Workshop/Work – Conference for Grade I – Vi
Teachers.

• Fuller lesson/Marungko Approach
• Beginning Reading Activities
• Rhymes, Jingles, Verses
• Dolchs Basic Sight Words
• Gray Standardized Test
• Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (PHIL-IRI)
D. Love Reading
- Uses of Cooperative Learning Games
- Story reading/story telling/choral
- Reading/tape
VI. Evaluation
1. Classroom reading inventory: get the reading level
2. Written tests: get children achievement performance
