The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was an international bank founded in 1972 by
Pakistani financier Agha Hasan Abedi. The bank was established in Luxembourg, with headquarters in
Karachi and London. A decade after its inception, BCCI had over 400 branches in 78 countries and assets
in excess of $20 billion, making it the world's seventh largest private bank.

The Basel Committee, headquartered at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, was established
to improve financial stability by improving the quality of banking supervision globally, and to serve as a
forum for regular cooperation on banking supervisory matters among its member countries.
