Just to review the previous class..........

Functions of food in PE and sport

1. Carbohydrates- provides energy

2. Fats -insulate body organs, and transport fat-soluble

vitamins through the blood.

3. Protein – build and repair muscles

4. Vitamins -that are needed for normal cell function,

growth, and development.

5. Rehydrants – hydrates the body

Question 1- you are playing football in your PE class and you become
dehydrated. What are 3 effects of this dehydration?3 effects are:

Dizzy, Lack of energy and rapid breathing


We are now going to look at the 4 processes of the digestive system

1) Ingestion- this is the taking in of food

Food is taken into the mouth and broken down into smaller parts for
swallowing

2) Digestion - how your body turns food you eat into nutrients it uses
for energy, growth, and cell repair.

3) Absorption – this is when nutrients from food enters the blood


stream to help the body

4) Excretion – this is the process where waste products are eliminated


from the body
