ACTIVITY 4: IT’S TIME TO WRITE

How do social stratification differences affect your life as a Senior High

School student?
A senior high school student’s life can be a stressful one, with the constant
pressure of maintaining social and academic standing. The complexities of this
type of life are only increased if students belong to different socioeconomic
classes. Informing the reader on how social stratification affect him or her, this
article will take a look at some aspects that may potentially cause a conflict in life
for a senior high school student.
Social stratification refers to divisions within society based on economic status and
education levels. In a capitalist society, social stratification is based on wealth and
power. Generally, the classes are arranged in whatever order they are in terms of
their importance to the economy (richest first and poorest last). Although there
may be other factors that influence one’s position in society depending on their
socioeconomic class, economic power is one which holds great influence over all
others.
According to the study, “the tendency for students to attend school only because of
the financial support does not appear to be alleviated by this social position.” It is a
common tendency in today’s society that working to provide for others is seen as
lesser of a mentality and more of a duty than maintaining one’s own status through
one’s own hard work.
