Lesson Plan

Grade: Kindergarten
Subject: Mathematics
Unit: Identify and Describe Two-Dimensional Shapes
Lesson Title: Compare Two-Dimensional Shapes
Time Length of Lesson: about 30 min.

Standard addressed:
• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.G.B.4-Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional
shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their
similarities, differences, parts, and other attributes.
Learning objectives/goals:
• Students will be able to identify the name of three different shapes (triangle, circle, and
square).
• Students will be able to name attributes of all three shapes (how many vertices and sides)
• Students will be able to compare the three shapes and sort them correctly.
Lesson Structure:
•Opening (5 min.): Students will watch a shape song video.

•Body (15 min.): Students will complete math lesson pages with teacher (whole group
instruction)

•Closing (10 min.): Students will complete Seesaw activity on their iPads independently. This
will assess what they have learned in this lesson and lessons leading up to this point in the
chapter. Once I have ensured every student has correctly pulled up the activity on their
iPad, I can work one-on-one with focus students and others that need my assistance.

Progress Monitoring & Assessment

• The Seesaw activity serves as both progress monitoring strategy and assessment. If students
are able to complete this activity correctly, I know they have met the learning objectives. If
they are not able to complete it or do it incorrectly, I know these students will need a
reteach.

Student Engagement/Learning
•I will make the lesson relevant to all the students by incorporating aspects that are fun and
engaging such as the shape song video and the use of a technology activity on their iPads.
•Students will show progress towards master of lesson objectives by staying on task during
the math pages whole group lesson and completing their Seesaw activity.

Classroom Management
•I will maintain a positive learning environment by reviewing our four classroom rules before
the lesson which are work hard, be kind, be respectful, and keep your hands to yourself.
•Specific classroom procedures I will use in this lesson include using call and response
attention sayings to keep the class focused and quiet. I will also refer to the saying “catch a
bubble” and “whole body listening.”
