Where Does it Start?

The practice of efficiently anticipating and responding to catastrophes is known as

disaster management. In order to minimize or eliminate possible losses from disasters, ensure
immediate and appropriate support to catastrophe victims, and achieve a quick and efficient
recovery, resources must be strategically managed. A systematic approach is also entailed with
this, for managing the responsibilities of disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and
recovery.

According to a video entitled “Education for disaster preparedness” by UNESCO in

2013, since educations systems have a major role to play in conveying adequate knowledge
about Disaster Management, they are heavily affected by disasters. Schools, however, are also
a part of the solution as they can impart knowledge and abilities that can save lives and protect
children and young people before and after disasters. Education is vital in preparing
communities and creating disaster-resistant civilizations, and ensuring people's safety. Disaster
Risk Reduction should be incorporated into school curricula and activities to make sure that
students are aware of the causes, effects, and steps to take in the event of a disaster. To
provide students the opportunity to learn by doing and put their newly acquired information to
the test in the real world, the entire learning community should cooperate on safety measures in
preparation for disasters.

I agree with the information projected by UNESCO. I am aware that learning should start
at home. But as they say, children spend more awake hours in school than they do at home.
Yes, children can learn disaster management inside their homes. Even so, I believe, aside from
parents are busy working for their children’s future, educators are more capable of guiding
children with these kinds of matter as they are specialized and are trained in the field of
teaching.
