Analysis/ Evaluation

Alma Anonas-story Carpio's "Mnemosyne's Typewriter" uses formal diction to convey

the character's emotions and actions. Furthermore, the story encompasses a set of
symbols and recurring patterns, making it more visually appealing and fascinating
to read. The entire flash fiction was also excellently constructed, with a profound
vocabulary and metaphors that made the author's extent of emotions extrapolate on
the story's otherworldly premise. The author wrote the story in an unusual way,
employing figurative language and various styles or figures of speech such as
onomatopoeic words like "clackety-clacks" and personification like "impatient
fingers." The plot of the story is brief but substantial because every single line
stated by the author has its own meaning and interpretation, and it is up to the
readers to discover the underlying meaning behind the text. That is why the story
is appealing and engaging to read. The author is also a genius in the sense that
she can make ideas flourish from her imagination. Moreover, the flash fiction is
ironic because the word "Mnemosyne" means "Goddess of Memory" or "the one who knows
everything," but in the story, Mnemosyne's memory incrementally dwindled up until
her sole memory completely disappeared.
